Hello All! I haven't introduced myself on here for a while so I thought I'd do that again. A big warm hello to all of you my name is Samuel or Sam for short and I'm the man behind Samuel Downing PT - Strength and Stretch Hybrid Coach. It was during my time in New York that I fell in love with fitness and conditioning for dancers. What really inspired me, was the way our faculty delivered and taught our classes with an immense anatomical knowledge, I’m talking from commercial teachers, contemporary, Musical Theatre choreographers and many others! Since returning to the UK, retraining as Personal Trainer and using the next 10yrs to develop my own teaching skillset, I was fortunate enough to stay connected to dance, and able to workshop/experiment with dancers on a weekly basis - exploring different fitness methods to create and establish what I do today. I spend most of my days delivering online 1-2-1 & Group sessions to dancers in the UK, Ireland and Europe. Part of this is being a Virtual Faculty member to numerous Dance Studios - where I take a class through Conditioning and Stretch for dancers - which gives me great joy, knowing how our young generation and established Dance Teachers/ Owners value the importance of Specific Conditioning and Stretch for their students. For me, what I do is so much more than just a job, it's something I picture myself doing for years to come as it allows me to access so many different parts of the dance world. From working with individuals, to open classes, working with Dance colleges on educating their students to leading courses for Dance school owners & teachers, I honestly couldn't imagine doing anything else. If you didn’t know already, I'm married to @rosiniballerini and dog parent of @mrbillydowning , Rosina and I got him on the first day of lockdown, urgent drive to the breeder and PetsatHome to get the supplies and it was the best decision ever! I'd love to get to know you a little better, comment below and come say hello and tell me where you're from, it's always so much fun to see where everyone is! by @samueldowningpt
This will SHOCK you! 😱 Hey Dancers & Dance Teachers here’s one for you! Rosina and I have said it before, and now here’s the proof! Happy Halloween from us to you 🎃💜 Not sure who’s the biggest sport here; @samueldowningpt or @mrbillydowning 😂 by @samueldowningpt
Never underestimate a dancer. Behind every powerful, effortless-looking leap is hours of practice, strength, control, coordination and commitment. But what actually helps a dancer achieve that leap? 👀 It’s more than flexibility. It’s understanding how the body works, developing strength through the take-off, controlling the body in the air, and building the stability and technique needed to land safely. This is exactly why Dancer Conditioning is so important and a key focus at Rosina Andrews Teachers Intensive. Register your interest via rosinaandrews.co.uk Understanding the why behind the exercises allows teachers to make more informed decisions about supplementary training, helping dancers develop the physical foundations to support their technique, artistry and longevity. The leap is the result. The work is the secret. 💥 Educate the dancer. Strengthen the body. Enhance the artistry. by @samueldowningpt
✨Competitions are nearly upon us here at MTPAS ✨ We’re getting ready to hit season SAFELY and effectively during this delicate adolescence age. Whilst the incredible dance faculty and choreographers are fine tune the routines, I’ve been luckily enough to have nearly every dancer in our REFINE stage for a 1-2-1 this term. Working collaboratively with the faculty and dancers, we’ve been revisiting previous corrections, strengthening body awareness and refining the finer details that can make all the difference when it matters most. Wanna know more about the REFINE stage in Rosina Andrews Method and #dancesmarter? Then you better get on the pre registration list for our next intensive! by @samueldowningpt
A special day having our beautiful Irie christened 🤍 I’ve walked the path to this church in many seasons; our wedding, the girls christenings, somberly for funerals, but the people in these pictures have been there through each season. That in itself is the most special. Our girls are very lucky. And of course @susieqz2 has taken hundreds of beautiful photos but we’ve settled on 19 to share… our number ❤️ by @samueldowningpt

🚨 DANCERS! STOP SKIPPING THESE 3 EXERCISES! 🚨 If you want better control, stability and strength through your hips and core, these are 3 exercises I regularly use with dancers. 💪 1. Lying Hip Lifts → Hip stability → Pelvic control → Strength through the glutes & hips 💪 2. Lying Hip Flexor Marches → Strengthens the front & lateral hip flexors → Improves leg-lifting control → Builds strength without relying on momentum 💪 3. Banded Pallof Press → Whole-body stability → Oblique & core strength → Pelvic control & resistance to rotation 💡 The goal isn’t just to be flexible. Dancers need to be able to control the range they have and that means developing strength, stability and body awareness alongside their technique. Strong body. Controlled movement. Better dancing. 👇 Which one are you adding to your next conditioning session? #dancesmarter #samueldowningpt #conditioningforperformers #dancemovementspecialist #onlinedancept by @samueldowningpt
