🎶 A winning aria! Huge applause to @samuelstopford, winner of the 1st Prize at the 12th @moniuszkocompetition!

In his second aria of the evening, the young British tenor captivated both the audience at @operanarodowa and the jury with his heartfelt performance of Cisza dokoła from The Haunted Manor by Stanisław Moniuszko.

His interpretation also earned him the Maria Fołtyn Prize for the best performance of a Moniuszko work! 👏

Came for the @opernstudio. Leaving with elevated cortisol and a crippling Coke Zero dependency. Oh, and a couple new mates ☺️ @bayerischestaatsoper

2 years. 18 productions. 70 performances. 60+ concerts. Countless auditions. God knows how many rehearsals, coachings, and masterclasses. What a wild ride! In general, I knew exactly what I was doing. But in a much more real sense, I had no idea what I was doing (Iykyk) 😂 But, that was all part of the fun. Unendingly grateful to everyone who’s helped me along the way. Young Artist no longer. Just Artist (?). How terrifying 😅 Here goes nothing! 🫶🏼

Much love,

Wrapping up the 2025/26 Season in typical fashion - yet another jump in 🤘🏼 but thankfully with more than an hour’s notice this time 😅 Some LUDICROUSLY good singing on offer from these beautiful peeps; such a pleasure to be on stage with such wonderful people and genuine artists ❤️

There’s also the brilliant @bayerischestaatsoper tradition of inviting everyone involved in making the house run like the well-oiled machine it is on-stage for the final curtain call - unendingly grateful for those who help us to do what we do 🫶🏼

Saying goodbye to this absolute beast of a show after 7 performances with two EXTRAORDINARY casts!! Pretty bonkers to be flying around, dancing, and spinning a bamboo stick like it’s a lightsaber all while looking like Casper the Ghost back 👻 Bravi to my three colleagues @vitorbispo.bari @armand_rabot @tansel_akzeybek as Ping(s) and Pang, and to the entire team involved 🫶🏼

Ping, Pang, Pong out ✌🏼

My first JUMP IN | What a whirlwind of a week! 💨

On Wednesday, I got a call asking if I could sing Ruiz in Il Trovatore. I had ONE HOUR to learn the role. Now, it’s just a few lines, but for the kid who can’t sight-read (or really read music that great in general…😅) this was a bit of a bonkers thought. Anyway, needs must and thankfully it all worked out. I then had a day to memorise the part and learn the staging before going on for real in the final performance alongside this outrageously STELLAR cast. Unreal.

Extremely grateful for the support of my colleagues and everyone who prepped me. Much love 💋

JOINING US FOR THE CONCERT ON APRIL 30: SAMUEL STOPFORD
At just 27 years old, British tenor Samuel Stopford has already garnered widespread recognition after winning the 12th International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition – where he claimed five prizes including the coveted First Prize – and has been praised for “a voice of exceptional clarity and emotional insight - an artist of natural musical intelligence and rare potential”.
A current member of the Opernstudio of the Bayerische Staatsoper, Stopford’s roles have included Jaquino Fidelio, Arturo Bucklaw Lucia di Lammermoor, Pong Turandot, Malcolm Macbeth, Gastone La traviata, Erster Geharnischter/Zweiter Priester Die Zauberflöte, Il Conte di Lerma Don Carlo, and Der Haushofmeister bei Faninal Der Rosenkavalier. These engagements have afforded him the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Carlo Rizzi, and Daniele Rustioni.
In summer 2024, Stopford joined the Young Singers Project of the Salzburger Festspiele, performing ‘First Croupier’ in Peter Sellars’ new production of Prokofiev’s The Gambler. He is a proud alumnus of the International Meistersinger Akademie (2023), where he sang in concerts with the Nürnberger Symphoniker and gave a lieder recital at the Reitstadel Neumarkt, broadcast on Bavarian Radio. As a concert soloist, Stopford recently made his Isarphilharmonie debut with the Münchner Rundfunkorchester in their ‘Bella Italia’ concert, his Wigmore Hall debut singing Liszt’s Tre Sonetti di Petrarca, and opened the WDCAL World Solo Dance Championships in the Shenzhen Universiade Stadium to an audience of over 12,000, reaching a further 1.2 million via livestream.
