Today starts #TransWeekofVisibility 🏳️‍⚧️, and here a #poem I wrote #BetweenQueerandLatinx - about living in the intersection of these identities.#Trans and #nonbinary people are often forgotten within both #LGBTQ and #Latinx communities & conversations. Some times feels like a limbo, others magical and beautiful. This poem is about it means to grow up exploring your gender identity, while at the same time figuring out a complex racial and cultural identity that you feel it doesnt accept you, where you don’t belong. #Pride 🏳️‍🌈is a month away, but the fight for #LGBTQ rights 🏳️‍⚧️🏴is year round! Excited to keep speaking up about the fight for liberation for our communities by joining @aaespeakers. You can invite this #queer #Latinx talker to your event, panel, school, conference and I will bring my many opinions and big mouth 😅but also my big vision for a world that is more loving, accepting and equal for all. 🌍💕🙏🏾 LINK IN BIO It’s important for entities to think intentionally about diversity, inclusion, and representation. There is so much work left to educate, inspire and create awareness in people and through dialogue we start creating the realities we want to see.It’s also important when thinking about the #LGBTQ community, the voices of #queer, #trans, #genderqueer, #nonbinary, #gendernonconforming and #peopleofcolor are thoughtfully center in these conversations. 12-year-old Samy’s wildest dreams. My first freelance job in #NYC was 10 years ago taking photos for exactly @nytstyle section —and today I’m on the cover! Grateful to being featured in this @nytimes article about the evolving acceptance and advocacy of non-binary, trans and gender nonconfirming ppl at the workplace. Thank you @shaneisland for uplifting our community that is under attacked nationwide. Conservative extremist forces are targeting & passing legislation that criminalize our lives in many several states increasing the rates of discrimination, violent attacks and even murder. Queer ppl as everyone deserve affirming, welcoming & safe working environments-including UNIONIZED- that upholds our identities, rights, safety & dignity. In the face of this avalanche of adversity from lawmakers, schools & even in bars, it is up to employers to ensure inclusive workplace policies & practices & for us to continue fighting back & advocating for protections and dignity under the law, workplace, in schools, in the streets, & everywhere. I’m fortunate & privileged to be able to work at an #LGBTQ nonprofit @lambdalegal at the forefront of fighting for our rights, but not every queer person has the conditions where they are constantly harassed, misgendered or simply not hired. On the other hand, this topic is not for me abt #fashion —but about #style. Style is one of the most powerful channels to express our gender identity & its multiple gender expressions. Especially for queer ppl, style is about embracing our authentic selves unapologetically & expressing through creativity & clothing a very abstract concept of gender defying cultural norms imposed by a binary, capitalist system. For me is not abt this piece of clothing itself, but about the physical expression of our identity expressed through style, which is a spiritual & political act of resistance altogether. For queer visibility, sometimes we don’t get to speak or event before doing so, our styles sends a strong political message and communicates to the world our sense of freedom, autonomy over our lives & rejection of gender or societal norms.👗 @anntaylor👔 @calvinkleinStyling @fashionistalatinanyc by @samynemir

The Law(yer Student) Wears Prada#Fashion is not about clothes, it’s a canvass to express who you are and how you want to feel in this world. Today was my first day in #court as a Law student. I was told I needed to go sober and wear a tie. But I don’t follow rules that were not meant to me. I dressed for MYSELF not the Court. I was cognizant that our people, queer and Latinx communities, have not traditionally access to these legal spaces, so I showed up to honor them and making a statement representation and inclusion. Visiting this #WorldWonder 🌎 in #Perú is a blessing and a trascendental experience one should do at least once in a lifetime. ✈️ 🧳 Experiencing #MacchuPichu firsthand this lost civilization thousands of years ago with so much knowledge and reverence to the Universe is humbling and makes you reflect about one’s contribution to and time on this Earth. 🗺️And in times when the government is removing valid IDs to trans and queer people, traveling feels more than meaningful, it becomes an act of defiance and joyful resistance.
