After a 9 year hiatus, I woke up from my hoop hibernation to perform in front of a bunch of people...yikes.

Much like Grace, I felt like I was drugged and thrown into a mission that I was not prepared for. Years of life beating me down, and keeping me away from practicing aerial hoop, really ate away at my confidence and my abilities. All my strength and flexibility from years of training in the past, long gone.

After watching Project Hail Mary, I saw a lot of myself in Grace. So when the local aerial group asked me to perform because there were not enough hoop performances, I felt <brave> and said "I guess so...".

Commence my astronaut training: spin tolerance and endurance. Strength and flexibility, barely there. I definitely had my moments when I wanted to pass out from excessive centrifugal force.

A 5 minute song is extremely ambitious, even for someone who practiced aerial continuously. So I shortened it to 4 minutes and kept my movements simple. It was still very challenging!

This performance was with the Netherlands based aerial group @circustijdgeestaerial, who planned and provided guidance for this show. The theme was TIME, and choosing the song called Life Is Reason fit extremely well. When you listen to it, you hear the woodblock ticking. There is an unforgiving urgency of time passing, heard in the music and seen in the movie.

My performance is to show, what is the purpose of time without life?

Time without life is empty. Infinite motion without meaning. A clock ticking in space. An empty hoop. It is only when something alive begins to feel the weight of time, that it becomes real. The way a human touch brings life to the hoop, giving it a purpose. Life transforms time from an abstract concept or a cold metal circle into an invaluable force.

Life is the reason that time turns from a mechanical, neutral, endless flow into something precious and limited.

Time isn’t meaningful because it exists, it is meaningful because I will eventually cease to exist.

Don't mind me, just living my best winter wonderland dream! 🥶⛸️😍 Ice skating is something I've always wanted to do ever since I took a trial lesson when I was little. Unfortunately, in sunny southern California, this is a very impractical skill, and my parents wanted me to "focus on my studies" so I never continued. This year, I realized that I live in a cold country, no longer have aerial in my life, but I have access to an ice skating rink...which means I can live my childhood dream! So I started taking lessons in November. You know when they say one door closes, a window opens...or when life gives you lemons, make lemonade- this is that! 🍋 #sandiskates taken in Hardenberg by @sandipalien

Come put my home pole up with me!!

I'm not sure why I've been sleeping on this space. Actually I do know. I keep waiting for our designated hobby room to be ready...but it is taking so long. Also this room usually has extreme temperatures due to it being in the attic and poorly insulated. It has been sitting here being used to collect dust and boxes. My pole included. I finally decided, fuck it- I'm gonna clean it up and put up my pole! Now my least favorite room might be my favorite! I'm just missing my hoop 😬

A Moment. In TIME.

The theme for the summer showcase was TIME.
I was heavily inspired by my soul movie - Project Hail Mary.

Year 2 house update: garden is wild but loved!

It's actually the first year that I'm living at the 'T Paleisje and able to do some gardening at my own leisure! I'm learning what I have growing and what I want to keep and how to take care of it. So far I have learned that:
- I am drowning in bluebells and forget-me-nots but I'm ok with that.
- my apple tree isn't dead but maybe a bit stunted and so I need to focus on shaping it.
- dead branches don't just disappear by themselves 😅
- my wisteria is also not dead and twirling and growing! I just planted it late in the season last year.
- the candy cane tulips take forever to turn pink and then die...so I will probably not be planting those again
- Rogue is half a tulip tall 😭

I still plan to create a short hedge border so all the neighbors can see us (and I can see them) and say hi to us (and rogue can say hi to them). And I plan to pull out all the tiles and cover the ground in wildflowers to make a pollinator heaven.

I've planted my California wildflowers and sunflowers, so I hope to have a summer superbloom if they can survive the Dutch weather. One thing is for sure, year 3 will be even more wild and loved!! by @sandipalien
