Malia competed in her first 1 k open water swim outside of our lake . She did so amazing and is really loving open water swimming. She finished #7 in women’s and her coaches said she has potential for possibly qualifying for nationals in open water . As always, I’m so proud of her ❤️❤️❤️❤️ by @sandiwol

Yesterday was the beginning of a rough weekend of water polo! Tough competition, scorching 100 degree temps and a new team trying to figure out the best way to succeed.

Losing is rough, but going into today, I told Malia to forget about everything she couldn’t control and focus on what she could: win her sprints, play as hard as she possibly could, be relentless on defense, and leave absolutely nothing in the pool.

And that’s exactly what she did. ❤️

She played almost every minute of every game, won all of her sprints (at the start of each quarter the fastest girl on each team ( the sprinter) race to the ball to try and earn possession) , scored FOUR goals, played fierce defense, and gave everything she had. They won their last game 15-3! I am so proud of her and her team and am excited to see them progress💕💕 by @sandiwol

80 at 6 am! We have water polo all weekend 🥵 But I always say after being so miserable in Northern California, freezing my butt off for 25 years, I will never complain about the heat. by @sandiwol

Today is the big day for our sweet Chapo. ❤️ He’s having surgery to remove a cancerous mast cell tumor 😩

We’re hopeful that they’ll be able to get it all and that we’ll get good news from his pathology afterward. In the meantime, please keep our little man in your thoughts today and send him all the love, positive energy, and good vibes you can. 🐾❤️

I’ve been thinking about something today as I’ve watched the outpouring of love for Dolly Parton.

I have friends on social media from all walks of life. Different backgrounds, different beliefs, different politics. There are plenty of social and political issues that we absolutely do not agree on.

And yet, somehow, we all seem to agree on Dolly.

She was loved by people who probably couldn’t sit through five minutes of a political conversation together. She crossed generations, cultures, religions, political parties and lifestyles — and somehow made everyone feel like she belonged to them.

So what was it about her?

Maybe it was that she never seemed interested in telling people what they should think. She just showed us who she was. She was funny without being cruel. Confident without needing to tear anyone else down. Proud of where she came from without looking down on people who came from somewhere different. She could laugh at herself. She treated people with kindness. And when she had the ability to help people, she did — often quietly and without asking what they believed first.

Maybe Dolly’s greatest legacy isn’t just the music she left behind.

Maybe it’s the reminder that we actually are still capable of loving the same people, admiring the same qualities and finding common ground with one another. by @sandiwol
