It’s a wrap.
New music, one rehearsal, a gig and a studio date in less than 48 hours.
I love that.
Thank you @billmchenrysaxophone , @yonizelnik and @francesco_chi_nee_yo .
Thanks to the great audience at @sunsetsunside .
I think it will be a nice record.

Recorded on my @franselferink guitar at @studio.prado by @pierredachery and @viktor_grrr . No effects, no overdubs.
Check out the Coleman Hawkins and the Sinatra versions too, of course!

Watch me pull out morning faces in this algorithm-unfriendly video of Sunday slowness. This a bit of Monk. I actually recorded this in my solo guitar album « Mostly Slow Tunes ». It was a tribute to bass-player @yonizelnik .
Happy Sunday.

« Mostly Slow Tunes » is my first solo guitar album, released in 2025. These songs remind me, for no specific reason, of the persons who are close to me.

Each tune is a tribute to a different person.

This is a bit of Only the Lonely dedicated to @vincent_bourgeyx. (Check out the beautiful versions by Frank Sinatra and Shirley Horne)

Vincent is one of the most swinging pianists on this side of the Atlantic. You should all check out his latest record «Life Letters » with Darryl Hall and Greg Hutchinson. I’ve known Vincent for many years and we recorded together for my 5th album « Last Night When We Were Young ». He is darkly funny, extravagantly kind and a hopeless romantic. Great musician, good friend.

Glad to have been part of the very first edition of the @vallettaguitarfestival. Thanks to @simonschembrigtr for the invitation. It was great to share the stage with such brilliant musicians such as @rudifloress @sebastien_giniaux and @quatuoreclisses, and also immensely thrilled to play just before and listen to the phenomenal @yamandu.costa.oficial. Huge thanks to « intruder » @vincent_bourgeyx (the only pianist in the whole festival!) for the music. Thanks to @jeanelle1991, @christian.delia.520 and everyone at Festivals Malta for the organization. by @sandro_zerafa

Maltese brethren! Looking forward to reuniting with @vincent_bourgeyx next Thursday at the @vallettaguitarfestival . We will be playing at @teatru.manoel in Valletta. Hope to see you there.

This is a bit of Sweet and Lovely dedicated to @laurent_coq

Laurent is a unique pianist and you should all check him out. Check out his latest record Confidences together with @yonizelnik and @fredpasqua_ . I have known Laurent for the past 20 years, we did a couple of records together, we share suburban train rides together and we almost share the same musical tastes. Laurent writes beautiful tunes, really. Great friend, curiously sweet and disarmingly lovely.

Looking forward to playing at the very first edition of @vallettaguitarfestival, brainchild of guitarist @simonschembrigtr on the 10th of September together with @vincent_bourgeyx .
It will be a special night featuring some guitar royalties such as Yamandu Costa, Sebastien Giniaux, Quatuor Eclisses and others.

The above animation is by wife @angelesultana.
I recorded Last Night When We Were Young during the Covid madness - a duo with Vincent and a trio with Yoni Zelnik and Antoine Paganotti. It is available only on Bandcamp.

Shout out to @offbeatmusicbar in Valletta. The late night sessions are one of the things I love most about @maltajazzfest , and this year they were back in full swing. Not always easy finding the right headspace to play after a day of logistics and not much sleep — but it was a joy.

Thanks to my musical brothers @noechungohuchard, @yonizelnik, @francesco_chi_nee_yo and @drummer_will, and to all the young and older musicians who sat in. And thanks to @guzecamilleri and the whole team for keeping this place alive. You rock!
