‘LOVING YOU IS SO HARD’

Two plastic bags of persimmon left on the counter top
An apple to ripen the flesh — sweet and soft
This love is unspoken
Now that I’m older
I’ve learnt

Loving you is so hard
Loving you is so hard

I used to hate the taste of
Rocket — “arugula”
Star anise
Tonic water

Now I suck on the pith
Until it’s essence
Has devoured me

Loving me is so hard

I am going to swim through this feeling
And wring myself dry of it like a towel
Wet and heart shaped on the concrete
My love soaked up by the sun
Once again purified, to rain down on someone
with their eager mouth open to my sky
