TRAFFIC SAFETY REMINDER — SANTA ROSA COUNTY

As crews continue working around the clock to restore power and clear storm debris, some traffic signals may be without power or not operating properly.

If you come to an intersection where the traffic signal is completely out, treat it as an all-way stop and proceed with caution.

🛑 Come to a complete stop.

🚗 Take turns and yield the right-of-way appropriately.

⚠️ Slow down and stay alert. Watch for other drivers, pedestrians, and emergency crews.

👮 Follow the directions of law enforcement officers if they are directing traffic.

We know recovery takes time, and we appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as crews work to restore normal conditions.

💙 Stay alert, drive safely, and look out for one another, Santa Rosa County! by @santarosasheriff

Since Hurricane Isaias made landfall on October 9, 2026, our Disaster Response Team (DRT) has been working tirelessly to clear debris, remove trees from employees’ homes, and take on the many challenges that come with storm recovery.

Along the way, several tree service companies saw the need and stepped up to lend a helping hand. We want to recognize and thank Edelen’s Tree Service and Central Florida Tree Pros for going above and beyond to assist our team!

Your willingness to show up, pitch in, and help others during a challenging time is what community is all about. We are incredibly grateful for businesses that put service before themselves and remind us that we are stronger when we work together.

From all of us at the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, THANK YOU for making a difference! 💚 by @santarosasheriff

If you don’t need to be out, please stay home

We understand that after a storm, people want to get out, check on things, and find the supplies they need. However, we are asking everyone to think twice before getting on the road.

Utility crews are working tirelessly to repair damage and restore power throughout Santa Rosa County. The amount of traffic on our roadways is creating challenges for crews trying to reach affected areas and complete these important repairs.

We understand that some travel is necessary. Getting food, fuel, water, and other essential supplies is part of recovery. But unnecessary trips are contributing to traffic congestion and making an already difficult job even harder for the crews working to serve our community.

If you don’t have a necessary reason to travel, please stay home.

Giving crews room to move is one simple way we can all help speed up recovery efforts.

Please be considerate, stay patient, and remember that we all have a role to play in getting Santa Rosa County back to normal.

Thank you for your cooperation and support. by @santarosasheriff

RAILROAD CROSSING SAFETY ALERT
As our community continues to recover from Hurricane Isaias, local railroad operations are preparing to resume today.
⚠️ Please use extra caution when approaching railroad crossings!
Due to storm-related damage, some railroad crossings may have missing or nonoperational crossing gates and warning equipment.
Railroad employees will be on-site at crossings as trains pass. However, we urge everyone to remain alert and exercise extra caution when approaching and crossing railroad tracks.
Remember these important safety tips:
Slow down and look both ways as you approach every railroad crossing.
Never assume a train is not coming just because the crossing arms are missing or the warning signals are not working.
Stop, look, and listen for approaching trains.
Never attempt to drive around lowered crossing gates.
If a train is approaching, always yield and never try to beat it across the tracks.
Your safety is our priority. As our community works to get back to normal, please remain alert, be patient, and use extra caution around railroad crossings by @santarosasheriff

A Little Appreciation for the Voices Behind the Radio

During Hurricane Isaias, our deputies were out on the roads, responding to calls for service, and assisting our citizens through the storm. But behind every call, every radio transmission, and every request for help were the dedicated voices of our 911 dispatchers.

Before, during, and after the storm, our communications team answered thousands of 911 calls, coordinated resources, and helped ensure our deputies could get where they were needed most.

While our deputies faced the storm out in the field, our dispatchers weathered it right alongside them, keeping the lines open and the information flowing when our community needed us most.

Today, we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU! Thank you for your long hours, your calm voices, your dedication, and your commitment to serving Santa Rosa County through it all.

You may not always be seen, but you are always heard. And we couldn't do what we do without you. by @santarosasheriff

ONE MISSION. ONE GOAL.

When disaster strikes, the law enforcement family shows up for one another.

Our midnight shift welcomed some extra help from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office as recovery efforts continue across Santa Rosa County.

Like so many in our community, our deputies have homes and families impacted by Hurricane Isaias. Having Polk County deputies here has provided an opportunity for our team to get home, check on their properties, be with their families, and catch up on some much-needed rest.

We can’t thank Sheriff Grady Judd and the men and women of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office enough for answering the call.

When one community needs help, another steps up. That’s what it’s all about. 💚💛 by @santarosasheriff

Hurricane Season Reminder: Protect Yourself from Contractor Scams

The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to be cautious of scams following a hurricane or severe storm.

Unfortunately, scammers often take advantage of people trying to repair their homes and recover from storm damage.

Here are a few tips to protect yourself:

Hire only licensed and insured contractors.
Be cautious of unsolicited door-to-door offers and phone calls.

Verify contractor licenses and insurance before agreeing to work.

Read all contracts carefully and never feel pressured to sign.

Contact your insurance company if you have questions about coverage or payment.

Remember, if an offer sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Suspect fraud? Report it.

Florida Department of Financial Services Fraud Hotline: (800) 378-0445

Florida Insurance Consumer Helpline: (877) 693-5236

Help us spread the word and look out for your neighbors. Taking a few extra precautions can help protect you and your family from becoming victims of fraud. by @santarosasheriff

Yesterday, October 12,2026, Sheriff Johnson and Chief Deputy Tifft got a bird’s-eye view of Santa Rosa County aboard a Polk County Sheriff’s Office helicopter.

The flight gave them a firsthand look at some of the damage left behind by Hurricane Isaias, along with a view of our base camp and ongoing recovery operations.

A big thank you to the Polk County Sheriff's Office for the ride and for continuing to lend a helping hand during our recovery!
