Some people go to France for the pasta…

Still trying to wrap my head around this one. Ironman 70.3 World Champs. One of the BEST. DAYS. EVER! Before every race @natashavdm81 encourages us to write three words on our arm to come back to when things get hard. For Worlds:

GRATITUDE - my reminder to take it all in. At team coffee, Natasha talked about how lucky we were to be there, with people we love, doing something we love. It’s easy to get caught up in nerves and expectations and forget how lucky I am to be here. Months after starting this sport, I was at Worlds in Nice. Every time I looked down at my arm, gratitude reminded me to look up too.

PERSISTENCE was what this training block asked of me. Moving to New York meant every bike ride was indoors. Going into 4000+ ft of climbing and a technical descent after barely riding outside made me nervous, but training doesn’t have to look perfect to keep moving forward. Race day tested that. My tire blew in transition and bike tech got me out with 30 seconds to spare. 50 yards into the swim, I got kicked in the face and my goggles broke, so I swam the remaining 2,050 without them in the salty Mediterranean. On the bike my chain fell off, my aero bar shifting popped out, then at mile 53 I took a turn too fast and flipped over a barricade into a bush. I popped right back up laughing. Persistence became the way I raced.

JOY was remembering this was supposed to be fun. Even with everything that went wrong, it was. SO. SO. FUN. I swam in the Mediterranean, climbed Col de Vence through breathtaking views, and raced alongside some of the best triathletes in the world. I crossed the finish line with the biggest smile. It wasn’t a perfect race, but I wouldn’t change it. A great day doesn’t require everything to go right.

COMMUNITY was the last word I added before Eagleman because something felt missing. This time, it earned a permanent spot. I felt that in Nice, racing alongside my @nvdmcoaching teammates and cheering every time we crossed paths. Triathlon may be an individual sport, but it has never felt individual to me. I’m lucky to have found people who make the world feel small and new places feel like home. by @sara.christ

5:37 and a World Championship qualification at my first 70.3!! Left a piece of my ♥️ (and a chunk of my elbow at bike mile 15😅) in Maryland

Before every race, @natashavdm81 encourages athletes write three words on their arm. Words to come back to when things get hard. I came up with mine a few months ago during training:

DRIVE is what got me to this start line. It’s the part of me that signs up before I feel ready. The part that leans in instead of out. That wants to know what’s possible if I really go for it. It’s the early mornings, the long rides, the endless laps, and choosing to keep showing up every day knowing that if I want it badly enough, I can have it.

PATIENCE is what’s keeping me here. Trusting that progress comes from consistent work, not instant results. It comes from showing up again and again, trusting the process.

STRENGTH isn’t just physical, but mental too. It’s staying calm when things don’t go as planned. At mile 15, I crashed going into an aid station. I got back on my bike and kept going. Strength became less about power and more about deciding the race wasn’t over. Strength became remembering that I’m capable of more than I know and being proud of how far I’ve already come.

As I was falling asleep the night before the race, I realized I was missing one word on my arm. So I added:
COMMUNITY. This journey wouldn’t have been the same without the people I’ve spent countless hours training alongside, learning from, and growing with. I felt that more than ever this week through every message from teammates, coaches, friends, family, and even strangers. Standing in the swim queue next to three other @nvdmcoaching athletes before the gun went off reminded me that even though triathlon is an individual sport, none of us get here alone.

And thank you to everyone who supported my fundraiser for the @heavens27foundation Together we raised $10,590, far surpassing my goal. After last summer’s devastating Central Texas floods, the families of Heaven’s 27 turned unimaginable loss into action, advocating for camp safety and honoring their girls’ legacy. Every donation helped carry that mission forward ♥️♥️

No feeling quite like ringing that first timer bell and crossing the finish line. 1st in AG and 10th overall at my first ever triathlon @supertri_ !! 🏊🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♀️

Beyond the race itself, I’m most grateful for the people this sport has brought into my life. Huge thank you to @natashavdm81 and my teammates at @nvdmcoaching for making the experience so meaningful. We say it everyday but community truly is everything.

This sport has already taught me so much about myself, discipline, perspective, and how much joy there is in doing hard things alongside good people. Excited for the road ahead!! Let’s do it again and again and again!! Ready for you @ironmantri 🔥🔥 by @sara.christ
