Studio shots from @emilycarru. I’m finishing up a month of being here making and creating and exhibiting. It’s been a whirlwind and an incredible experience. Grateful for all the studio technicians and all the other MFA students for making this time memorable.

Driving past a few different wildfire zones on my way back to @emilycarru. It’s been an incredible residency so far with the MFA 2027 ECO 12.

If you’re in the lower mainland I’d love to invite you to view our work this week. We’re showing on the first floor inside by Wilson Arts Plaza.

Reception 5-7pm
Thursday August 6th

My work is about the recovery of landscape and community after forest fire. A pertinent topic as I’m driving through smoky skies and watching evacuation alerts. Huge thanks to the @columbiashuswaprd (last slide) and the firefighters working this weekend.

Axis Mundi is a bridge between species, materials, and living systems. Rather than centering humans as the primary participants, it positions plants, animals, microbes, water, soil, and atmosphere as equally held within this vertical axis of relation.
This Artist Collective is twelve individuals from across the country drawn together through their Ecological MFA 2027 cohort at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Axis Mundi offers a place where ecological processes, embodied experience and unforeseen forces interact to shape our future shared world. #ecoart #contemporaryart #axismundi #canadianart #art taken in Mayne Island by @sara.wiens

It’s been over a week since I got back from The Toronto Outdoor Art Fair. And I’m still thinking about the experience talking to so many people, being interviewed on the local news, the camaraderie with the other ECU students and all the paintings that sold!

Feeling thankful for the opportunity to share my art and research with others.

If you couldn’t come in person, the fair continues online at www.toaf.ca for the rest of the year.

I have been quiet on socials this year because I am deep in creative experiments in my MFA program at ECarr University. It's been an incredible experience. I'm not ready to share the new work just yet. But I can share that through ECarr I have the opportunity to attend the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair July 10-12. My online gallery is complete at www.toaf.ca. Check it out! If you are in the Toronto area, I'm booth 304. Thank you to Marika Morissette, Sara Wiens, Liz Watson and Justine Blicq for sharing your art processes with everyone at the Bowen Arts Tour and for the fun demos and musical performance. People also enjoyed the “draw yourself” community painting that Liz Watson created!
