I am so proud that I got to showcase just a glimpse into my culture with this monologue! I wrote and performed, ‘My Children’, for my Writing Lab class at @thegroundlings I was nervous that I wouldn’t connect with the audience or get many laughs because I spoke in Arabic/English, but let this be your sign that comedy is a universal language! 😂 Jokes aside, I’m also honored to have gotten to speak Arabic on an iconic stage (which I’ve never seen done before at the Groundlings) especially now during a time where the livelihood of my people is still in question. This is a reminder that your existence, is resistance. You matter. Your voice matters. ❤️

And finally, my favorite part is hearing my dad’s laugh at the Arabic part of my monologue 🥹 (now this proves I’m funny in Arabic too) and that I got to represent my family by using their names. 🥰 taken in The Groundlings Theatre by @saraelzeini

Sappy post alert 🚨 This past year I dove back into improv comedy (something I fell in love with in college) but was outta of touch with because of the pandemic. I decided to take a leap of faith at start from zero at the legendary @thegroundlingsschool This school has an amazing opportunity to partner with SNL and other major networks and give those opportunities to people of color. So I did just that and applied for the Groundlings/SNL scholarship program back in Dec. 22. This scholarship is awarded to only 3 people every quarter and I, Sara, got it! This scholarship allowed me to take all three major core classes at groundlings for free, as well as, have an opportunity to submit for SNL (when I’m ready not now lol). I got the scholarship in January of this year and instead of celebrating that to the world at that moment, I worked my butt off to prove to myself I was worthy of it. 3 classes later and I made it!Officially passed all the improv classes at groundlings in one year and I think it’s finally time to celebrate that!

Lastly, in my SNL scholarship application I wrote characters based off my middle eastern family members and my background. I wrote about how I can’t wait for the day that the Arabic language integrates in the main stream comedy world. I’m just so proud to move that needle one degree further. As for my next journey, I’ll be starting the writing classes and my next show will be on the groundlings main stage - where I hope to showcase myself; a young female Arab American comedian from the Bronx. ❤️❤️❤️ taken in G2 The Groundlings School by @saraelzeini
