Proud moment seeing my words in this month’s issue of @womensweeklymag 🤍

They say everyone has a story in them. My article is about the different ways people can tell their story, and the power of doing so.

A huge thank you to everyone I spoke to for this one, I feel so honoured to have been entrusted with the precious stories and memories that were shared with me to bring this article to life.

Excited to see my words in MiNDFOOD this month with a feature on the little-known neurological disorder, functional neurological disorder (FND).

This was one of the most fascinating topics I’ve written on and it was an absolute privilege to hear the stories from people living with the disorder.

Other stories in this issue include an insightful look at the art of deep reading, why you should embrace rest, and an epic travel section focused on NZ.

Out now in all good newsagents 🤍

Turns out I’m quite into wandering uphill.

Don’t mind the heavy breathing 😳 (thought it was a good idea to run the last part of the hill > it was not).

I may have accidentally become a hiking person, and this little gem in my backyard has been getting a lot of attention lately.

To answer the person who asked me the other day if I “still do little travel stories”, yes. Yes I do.

I’m terrible at posting about my work. Talking about it. Sharing things I’ve written. Basically, I’m very good at doing the work and remarkably bad at letting anyone know I’ve done it.

This is me trying to be a little better at the part of my job I’m not terribly good at..

Here’s something I wrote recently for Luxury Travel magazine, which is on the shelves this month.

My words for this year’s lap around the sun are: aliveness, intention, and authenticity.

I’m leaning into them hard.

In no particular order, this is what’s been feeding my soul and keeping me true to my words over the last month or so.

Ocean swims.
Books.
New typewriter.
Family.
Nature.
Chocolate.
Baking.
New creative hobbies.
Tea.
Hikes with my favourite people.

Stories to Keep starts in just two weeks!

In case you missed it, I’m starting a small, relaxed life writing group here on the Sunshine Coast for anyone who would like to put their memories, stories, and experiences into words.

Each Tuesday morning, we’ll have a different theme and some writing prompts to get started, followed by time to write and see where the words take you.

You can come along to a single session, or make it a regular part of your week. No previous writing experience is needed.

🌿 Fairhill Gardens, Ninderry
📅 Tuesdays from 6 October
⏰ 9.30am–11.30am
💰 $39 per session

Places are limited, and bookings are essential. Book your place via the link in my bio.

If you know someone who might enjoy this, feel free to share it with them.

I’ve been working on something for a while now, and I’m super excited to finally launch it: Stories to Keep, launching Tuesday 6 October!

Stories to Keep is a relaxed weekly in-person writing group here on the Sunshine Coast for anyone who has memories and stories they’d like to put into words.

Whether you write every day or haven’t picked up a pen in years, these sessions are about slowing down for a morning and getting something down on paper.

I’ll be running each session myself, drawing on the past decade I’ve spent listening to people’s stories and helping them find the right words for them.

Hosted at Fairhill Gardens, Ninderry, every Tuesday from 9.30–11.30am. Every week we will explore a new theme, with a set of writing prompts to help you start writing.

There’s a cafe on site for tea and coffee, and you’ll likely have company from the resident ducks and chickens while you write.

🚀 Tuesday 6 October.
💰 $39 per session
📍 Fairhill Gardens, Ninderry @fairhill.botanicgardens

Come once or make it a regular part of your week.

Bookings are essential, as spots are limited to keep the group small and personal.

Hope to see you there!

As someone who writes for a living and needs to find a way to squeeze the words out of my brain every day, whether I’m feeling inspired or not, I’m endlessly fascinated by the different ways writers tackle the blank page.

Whenever I meet another writer, I’ll always ask how they write when the words are resisting. Where they find inspiration, and how they get from the shitty first draft to the polished piece we see in print.

The answers I’ve been given have been as varied as the writers. Lists. Gratitudes. Journaling. Short stories. Outlines. Poetry. Emails. Pitches.

My go-to is poetry. So this morning, when I went to my local coffee shop for a change of scenery, it felt fortuitous when I found a book of poetry sitting on a table.

I don’t know about you, but when I’m reading a collection of poems I find myself opening the book to whatever page speaks to me.

This poem is where I landed this morning. And considering my current list of writing projects, it felt like it was put in my way on purpose. It definitely worked itself into my writerly mind.

If you’re a writer, I’d love to hear how you break the word floodgates open. by @sarahevercoe

“The day I realised my husband and I had shifted into housemate territory, it threw me.

It was 7am and I’d barely said a word to him when I asked: “Did you sign that permission slip?”

Morning sun streamed through the window, lighting something in his face I hadn’t noticed in a while – softness, maybe.

That’s when it hit me. For weeks, maybe even months, we’d been communicating almost exclusively in to-do lists.

I hadn’t really looked at him in what felt like forever. But that morning, the sun cast a spotlight on a quiet truth I’d been too busy to see: I adore this man, and I missed him.

We’d always believed our relationship was immune to the pressures of parenting. We were solid.

But romance? It had slipped out somewhere between the 100th nappy change and a midnight pass-off after our son woke screaming about monsters stealing his legs.

So here we were. Functional as parents – but flatlining as a couple.

In that moment of clarity, I realised we needed a break. Not from each other, not from parenting, but from being ‘just parents’. “

~ read about how a weekend away can help you see your partner in colour again in my latest article, ‘Why parents should take a kid-free weekend away’ for @wellnessaustralia on @bodyandsoul_au in the link up top.

It includes a a roundup of 6 Dream stays where couples can reconnect, too 🌙
