What a season!

A huge thank you to our artists, volunteers, supporters, friends, families and community members who made Encinitas Arts Alive 2026 so special.

The level of talent on display this year was truly incredible!

Aura-Soma is a self-selective, non-intrusive system of color, plant, and crystal energies designed to support personal well-being and self-awareness. Created in the 1980s by British holistic practitioner Vicky Wall, the system uses dual-colored “Equilibrium” bottles containing essential oils, herbal extracts, and crystal tinctures. My friend @tarateipel owner of @lemongrasscenter is an Aura Soma practitioner. This therapy is right up my alley for obvious reasons ;) and syncs in such a lovely way with how my creative practice fosters my well-being. A dedicated art journal spread honors all of this.

Here are my finished flower pot cradle board creations for #julyfodderschool5 with @sooz_rossiter. Wow! Has this month been full of amazing learning! I am so thrilled to have some new techniques to use in my creative practice, but also really happy to be making some wall art, which is not my usual habit! I think I’ll hang these as a tryptic in a bathroom full of white and gray. That should brighten things up a bit. You can still join the fun in Fodder School 5. I feel like I’m witnessing a miracle. At least it is a really encouraging sign and really lifted my spirits. I was just reading the news and feeling pretty disheartened. And then I went to empty the trash. (I can think of some apt analogies, but I’ll leave that…for now) I have been watching this volunteer tomato plant thrive in the crack between the fence and our driveway for a few months. But I saw it differently today. It gives me hope, and some really amazingly delicious tomatoes! I feel better. Even though you can’t experience the tomatoes, I am posting because this so that you can at least share in nature’s message. Don’t give up. Playing around with acrylic skins for #julyfodderschool5 with @sooz_rossiter was a ton of fun. I added glitter to clear gel and then layered that on top of colored fodder to create some interesting and fun effects. And the truth is, everything is better with glitter! You can still enroll in Fodder School 5 and get in on all the fun. Check out the link in my bio for registration information.

I want governing instead of grifting. I want progress instead of putrid pools and pedophiles. I want compassion instead of corruption. I want decency instead of degradation. I want integrity instead of insolence. I want accountability instead of assholery. I want the rule of law instead of rulers who are drunk on power. I want kindness instead of cults. I want democracy instead of demagoguery. I want service instead of self-dealing. I want fiscal responsibility instead of fiendish pillaging of our treasury. I want humility instead of the Heritage Foundation. I want trust instead of total, blind obedience. I want SCOTUS expanded and checked instead of scumbags legislating through a shadow docket. I want funding for education and not erectile disfunction (ED). I want diversity, equality and inclusion just like our predecessors wanted liberté, fraternité, & egalité. I want to be seen, heard, and understood, instead of being slighted, humiliated, and undermined. I want hope instead of hype. Let’s rebuild the middle class instead of letting billionaires buy senate seats (or the presidency for that matter!). I want authentic intelligence instead of artificial intelligence. I want agency instead of apathy. I want arts and humanities, instead of farts and adult panties. But most of all I want personal responsibility instead of perpetual scapegoating and blame. What do you want?

Here’s a full flip through of all the prompts I completed for Messy May. I really enjoyed the time I spent in my handmade journal following these prompts. It was no pressure and all joy, and I allowed myself to take a few extra days to complete some of them. So, finally done, here it is! Thank you to Get Messy and all the artists who facilitated last month! You really inspired me!
