“Rather than orient myself to the cycle of the moon, I orient myself to the cycle of infusion. And it has become a system in my creative work. My body is a clock.

Every 28 days, I point the camera toward myself to document my illness and care. I have used my time as a patient in the infusion suite, a place where I sometimes feel powerless, to reclaim my autonomy as an artist and photographer.”

Whether you have an idea for a project that is intended for the book form or are already working on one, this intensive and comprehensive program is designed to guide you through every step of the process of making a photobook. The objective is to have a physical maquette or artist book ready to present to publishers or to self-publish upon completion of the course, as well as to establish a practice and international community of support going forward.⁠

The program combines online seminars, critiques with guest artists, and one-on-one sessions, as well as optional in-person and online workshops. Working with Chair @SaraJWinston, Program Associate Chair @TerriWeifenbach, Faculty @TimCarpenter, and Program Assistant @NigelBaldacchino, while also receiving assignments and feedback from guest artists and critics, participants will have both continuity and a variety of support. ⁠

Some early installation shots of "Synergy for Softer Measures," my exhibition on view at the Gallery of Artful Medicine at Montefiore Einstein Hutchinson Metro Center through the end of 2026.

With roughly 10,000 people passing through daily en route to medical appointments, it is a profound honor to share this work in a healthcare space where patients, families, and healthcare providers can engage with it.

The exhibition prominently features four 30 foot long accordion books, each with 30 of more than 100 self-portrait photographs made on a single day during my monthly infusion appointments to treat Multiple Sclerosis.

The books transform medicalized time into an opportunity for active choreography with the body, the camera, and the book form itself. I examine the intricacies of photographic selection and choice, asking: What are the parameters for defining the “best” self-portrait in a series that looks at one’s vulnerability, care, and survival? The accompanying text, an excerpt from a longer piece of autobiographical writing about illness, care, and healing, is printed on the verso of each accordion, with partial erasure as it reappears in each book.backside of each book.

The books that are on view are enlarged versions of my book set TOO VISCERAL TO BE INTELLIGENT, a self published set of three accordion books available in a slipcase that I self published in March or this year. Those books are still available for purchase on my website; link in bio.

All proceeds from purchasing TOO VISCERAL TO BE INTELLIGENT will directly support my upcoming image/text monograph, INFUSION, set to be published by @saintlucybooks in February 2027.

Two years ago today I had my last cogent conversation with my dad. I wished him a happy Yom Kippur. We laughed, we yelled, we kvetched. My father’s voice would go up two octaves with enthusiasm when he took his head out of the sand, and on this night two years ago, he told me “DONT WISH ME A HAPPY DAY OF ATONEMENT!”
