Alpine, Rock, and Rescue (AKA summer mountain phase) is complete! We had an amazing team of instructors comprised of SAR Tech staff and Rescue Dynamics instructors to lead us up snowy mountains, across glaciers, vertically up rock faces, and occasionally over cliffs (tied-in of course).
Thanks to their hard work we are now on to final ops in Jarvis Lake, Alberta where many of the skills we've learned over the past 10 months will be put to the test in simulated Rescue scenarios.

There's still plenty of camp enjoyment to be had over the next 2 weeks but the day we dawn our orange jumpsuits edges closer with every day.
RESCUE!

Entre terrain alpin et rocheux, en plus des systems de sauvetage, notre phase de montagnes en été est terminée ! Nous avions une équipe d'instructeurs incroyable, composée de SAR Tech et d'instructeurs de Rescue Dynamics. Ensemble, ils nous ont mené en terrain montagneux - drôlement enneigées pour le temps de l'année - en traverse de glaciers, et en terrain vertical rocheux!

Grâce à leur travail acharné, nous sommes de retour au bercail à Jarvis Lake, en Alberta. Notre phase finale commence, où bon nombre des compétences que nous avons acquises au cours des 10 derniers mois seront mises à l'épreuve au moyens de scénarios de sauvetage simulés.

Il nous reste beaucoup de travail, mais le jour où nous porterons nos uniformes oranges approche à grands pas.

That’s a wrap on Winter Mountain Ops!

Over the past two weeks we learned the basics of ice climbing and navigating avalanche terrain on skis. We were taught by some of the highest-quality instructors Canada has to offer—each with decades of experience.

Lots of sore quads and pumped arms… but an incredible learning experience.

Course 58 would like to honour MCpl Alfred Barr who lost his life in a parachute training accident 9 years ago today. Alfred's unrelenting optimism inspired the SAR Techs who went through course with him, and he will never be forgotten.

His motto "Relentless forward motion" speaks volume to his resiliency both on and off the job and is a reminder to all of us to keep pushing through the hard terrain, the long days, and the obstacles we may come across.
