To celebrate The Artist Box No. 1, we visited @sariiice at @thespace.city, a cultural project in the heart of Hamburg.

Working with natural materials, pigments, and fragments of found objects, Sarice creates paintings that invite viewers to slow down and reflect on relation, materiality, and the quiet beauty embedded in layers of time, memory, and transformation.

It’s this thoughtful approach that inspired The Artist Box No. 1, featuring a curated edit of her personal beauty favourites. by @sariiice

THE ART OF BORDER SABOTAGE
– ECHOES FROM THE EDGES

Saturday, July 18, 2026
from 18:00

Concert at 19:00 with Sultan Molu and Ali Temiz

The exhibition explored the contemporary European border regime and the challenges migrants face in their everyday lives. At the same time, it proposed alternative possibilities for coexistence and invited audiences to rethink the border beyond its geographical meaning - as a psychological, social, cultural, technological, and aesthetic regime that shapes visibility, mobility, belonging, and exclusion.

Holding political urgency and poetic ambiguity together, the exhibition asked whether art can create temporary breaches within systems that appear immovable. Rather than offering simple answers, it unsettled dominant narratives, exposed contradictions, and opened spaces for encounter where borders seek to prevent them.

Border sabotage was understood as a poetic and aesthetic gesture - an interruption of fixed identities and dominant histories. A space where fragmented voices, suppressed memories, and alternative forms of belonging continue to resonate across walls, waters, languages, and generations.

CONTEXT OF TIME - SAGE GREEN - Variations on a Theme: there are times when the world no longer answers in a language we recognize VII, 2026

Through abstraction, this body of work explores relation as a fundamental condition of existence. Layers of marks, traces, and interruptions accumulate into a field in which distinct forms neither dissolve into unity nor remain isolated from one another. Instead, they coexist in a state of dynamic negotiation - approaching, overlapping, resisting, and connecting. Drawing on experiences of cultural multiplicity and movement between different histories and geographies, the painting considers how meaning emerges through encounter rather than certainty - and how forms become intelligible through their relationships with others. The composition becomes a space in which difference is not overcome but held in tension, proposing relation as a constant process rather than a fixed state of being and belonging. The work emphasises abstraction as a site of inquiry, where coexistence is not represented but enacted through the relationships between form, space, rhythm and interruption.

CONTEXT OF TIME - SAGE GREEN - Variations on a Theme: there are times when the world no longer answers in a language we recognize IV

Abstraction becomes a stream of thought - a space for reimagination and epistemological unfolding. Emerging from a biography shaped by multiple cultural lineages and experiences of movement, the work explores how memory, perception, and knowledge are continuously formed through relation. The traces and gestures do not depict a world; they open a space in which new ways of seeing, feeling and understanding might emerge.

The exhibition „OPACITY AND LIGHT“ explores the dynamic interplay between Opacity and Light - between what reveals itself and what remains partially concealed. Through painting, sculpture, installation, and spatial interventions, the exhibition approaches both light and opacity as aesthetic materials and as philosophical conditions shaping perception, relation and coexistence.

„ THE RIGHT TO OPACITY WOULD BE THE REAL FOUNDATION OF RELATION, IN FREEDOMS“ - Édouard Glissant, Poetics of Relation (1990)

The exhibition builds on the concept of opacity articulated by poet, novelist, and philosopher Édouard Glissant (1928–2011) – the right not to be fully understood - and places it in dialogue with light as a metaphor for revelation, knowledge and clarity – yet also for exposure, classification and control.

„CONTEXT OF TIME“ - There are times when the world no longer answers in a language we recognise - 2025

Part of the group show

R E S O N A N C E

TO RESONATE IS TO RELATE...,

TO REVERBERATE IS TO REMEMBER, REFORM AND REIMAGINE.

In a time marked and fractured by dissonance - social, cultural, political, ecological and spiritual - the concept of RESONANCE offers a counter-narrative.

How can art open space for RESONANCE in a world overwhelmed by noise? How can creative practices and research foster dialogue, mindful engagement and peace, not as passive withdrawal, but as an active, resonant force for coexistence and repair?

Drawing inspiration from German sociologist and political scientist Hartmut Rosa, RESONANCE is understood as a mode of being in which the self and the world enter into a responsive, dynamic
relationship. Unlike control or domination, RESONANCE arises from openness: a call and response between individuals, communities, nature, and the cosmos. In this sense, in a time when acceleration
replaces reflection, and disconnection becomes default, RESONANCE is a political, ethical, and aesthetic
act to transform.

While Rosa’s RESONANCE emphasizes relational reciprocity - being moved by the world and responding to it – Gaston Bachelard’s idea of REVERBERATION describes the internal, poetic consequence of that resonance:

Rosa asks: How does the world respond to our voice?

Bachelard asks: How does that response live on in us? What echoes remain?

It is here that French philosopher Gaston Bachelard’s notion of REVERBERATION offers its poetic force. If RESONANCE is the world vibrating with us, REVERBERATION is what lingers inside, the echo that deepens, softens, and regenerates our psychic being. Bachelard reminds us that true transformation begins not at the surface of interaction but in the slow unfolding of inner space - in dream, memory, and elemental sensation.
