Somewhere between sunset and a sky full of stars, things start to look a little different.

We’re back in June 2027 for another round of our Astrophotography workshop with photographer Rositsa 'Rosie' Dimitrova, spending five nights and four days in Samburu, learning, experimenting and getting to know the night sky through your camera.

Many people who join have never photographed at night before. Over the course of the workshop, you’ll learn the basics, try different settings and, with a little guidance, work towards capturing the Milky Way for yourself.

You don’t need to arrive with experience or a fancy camera. Just bring your curiosity, a willingness to stay up a little later than usual, and an appreciation for a good night under the stars.

The savannah has its own early-warning system. When a predator appears, birds are often the first to raise the alarm. Their calls aren't only for other birds: impala, gazelles and many other animals have learnt to listen in and react as though the warning were meant for them.

Ten years ago, a community looked at the elephants they were losing to drought, conflict and poaching, and decided to do something about it. Today, Reteti Elephant Sanctuary stands as East Africa's first community-owned elephant sanctuary built, run and led entirely by the Samburu people who founded it.

While a big number has been released to the wild and their progress tracked, the real story unfolds in the small moments at their temporary home. A calf finding its footing beside a companion who becomes family, a guardian who knows each rescue by name and history, or a trunk reaching eagerly for the bottle at feeding time.
