Hi, I'm Sasha - somatic psychotherapist and founder of @somatictherapypractice. ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

After 12 years in tech, including 9 at Google, I really struggled with two things:

1) Understanding what was happening with my body - unexplainable psychosomatic challenges, anxiety, severe burnout...

2) Why are we still not talking about mental health?! The stigma is real.

Throughout my journey i discovered mind-body therapy which healed me, and became a somatic psychotherapist myself to help others do the same.

I founded @somatictherapypractice because i believe you deserve direct access to amazing multi-skilled psychotherapists out there. There should be no barriers to getting help & being happy!

It's your birthright to feel good. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ

On this page I talk real talk about therapy, mental health & what it's like to be human these days. With my podcast guests we are being real, debunk myths and share vulnerable stories. Follow our journey! ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ๐Ÿซถ๐Ÿผ

Hi, Iโ€™m Sasha! Iโ€™m a somatic psychotherapist, which means that I work not only with your mind but also the body. Together we work on all 3 layers of your system: thoughts, emotions, and deeper somatic patterns of your nervous system, so that you can resolve your symptoms for good.โœŠ๐Ÿผ

I specialize in C-PTSD, anxiety, depression, addictions, eating disorders, burnout, attachment style issues, among other problems. Whatever comes up, we go deep to address the root cause and - in a safe & gentle environment - bring the deep unconscious beliefs and patterns to the surface. As a result, you can adjust them, learn new ways of being, heal your nervous system and live a happy life again.โ˜€๏ธ

I work in an integrative approach, which means I combine psychotherapy, somatic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems and inner child work. Occasionally I use meditation, movement, and other tools as required, depending on what you need today.

Book a first free session to learn more about how I work and see if we can be a match (link in bio)! Iโ€™m looking forward to meeting you.๐Ÿฉท taken in Lisbon, Portugal by @somatictherapypractice

Burnout asks you to rethink your values.

What have you been doing that is no longer aligned? What do you truly resonate with at this stage of your life? What do you no longer need, and what do you actually feel excited about?

More on the recalibration of values in our latest episode of the podcast with Anja Bourup, the psychological safety expert who's been through it all.

(This is an excerpt from the recent "Who'd have thought!" podcast episode with Anja, link in bio.)

The human psyche is rich, complicated & multidimensional. We can hold multiple counterintuitive things at once.

Yes, you can love your family and still need some distance from them. The boundary isn't a betrayal.

A part of you that misses them and a part of you that knows that this relationship is no longer good for you are allowed to coexist during a period of time.

The grief that you feel is normal when something big is coming to an end, and it mattered to you. It doesn't mean that you made the wrong decision.

When we grow up in a hectic environment where our caretakers have not been consistent with giving us love (for example, one day they would be very affectionate and another day they would be cold and mad), our nervous system did not learn the safe attachment. So it's perfectly normal to want to be close to someone and be scared of being close at the same time!

It is okay to hold both feelings at the same time.

When we learn a program that we need to be useful to be loved, rest becomes the major survival risk. We are afraid that if we do nothing, we will get abandoned.

In this case, we are very prone to burnout, fatigue, and performance instead of true authentic connection.

This program is a new nervous system. To heal it, start working with a licensed, vetted mind and body psychotherapist who understands how these are interconnected.

First session is free at @somatictherapypractice - link in bio.

It's difficult to do new things!

Setting boundaries is even more difficult because you might have learned that doing it is bad because it's inconvenient for people around you (usually your family), usually when you were very, very young. No wonder you feel bad doing this!

It's all okay. It is part of a process! The more you understand what your boundaries are and the more you express them, the easier it will become.

Keep doing reps and work with a licensed psychotherapist who understands how both your mind and body work.

What do you do when your partner pulls away and your chest goes tight?
When someone says something that feels like criticism?
Someone you love is upset with you?

Notice what your body does (& what is your urge to do immediately in the moment) to identify the pattern. The clarity gives you space to choose another option.

Your choices determine the result of the conversation and ultimately of the relationship: either you ground yourself and choose from a steady place or reinforce the same beliefs and the pattern.

Writing a text may seem like not so big of a deal *unless* your nervous system treats it as a threat to the connection.

If you're afraid your connection can break from a text, of course you will overthink it! Of course you will try to anticipate the reaction and the feelings of the person on the receiving end.

A text becomes a "lion" that can kill you & your relationship at any minute, so your whole system starts bracing into a survival mode.

This is a deep-seated pattern that you learned a long time ago, and it does live in your nervous system. The good news is it means that you can also heal it from your nervous system.

If we don't talk about our failures, we will never learn.

It is very important to share what we are all going through, to first accept what we've done, take responsibility for it, and see how we can iterate next time.

Sharing requires vulnerability, and it's not an easy feat. It is important to feel psychological safety in the groups that you share with.

Learn more about how to create it in the recent episode of our podcast with Anja Bourup, the psychological safety expert.

Exhausted after being with people for the whole day, even those you love?

You have likely been working overtime, reading the room, perceiving everybody's emotions, anticipating their needs, and, most importantly, forgetting about yours. No wonder you're tired.

This is an old pattern that your nervous system uses as a protection mechanism.

What do you do when somebody you love is upset with you?

The program that's running in your head and in your body drives your response and, in the end, determines the result.

The first step is always to identify your pattern and see it clearly for what it is. The clarity gives you more choices of the response.

Which option do you tend to choose now?

Rest is paramount to recover from burnout:

โ€ข Sleep.
โ€ข Eat.
โ€ข Allow yourself to do nothing.
โ€ข Allow yourself to fully yield into the couch.

For high performers, especially, it can feel very scary. It can feel like a collapse, but that's exactly what your nervous system needs. Trust the process and allow ample time for your nervous system to fully relax and for your brain to start performing. In due time, it will recalibrate and gather its bearings again. Trust that your nervous system and your body know what to do.
