If we build it, will you come? What started as a snarky response to a fabric manufacturer's tone deaf social media post is blossoming into something that could become a really amazing community of inclusive, anti-bigoted makers. We know we can't do this alone, so if you are interested in helping grow this crazy ass idea, please fill out the Anti-racist Quilt Guild's Planning Group Interest Form linked under @sasquatch.stitches profile. We are seeking volunteers that have skills in community/organization building, social media, technology structures, and legal/business structures to form a small planning group. Tolerance for the word "fuck" is an attribute. Not knowing what kind of response we'll receive, you may not hear back from us right away. There were some folks that volunteered to help in the comments under Petra's original post - for visibility we'll try to tag them in the comments here - hopefully we won't miss anyone. A public IG profile, with demonstrated anti-racist views is required. Invitation is open worldwide and meetings will be virtual. Every year, @gsafe in Wisconsin holds a Quilt & Fiber Auction to raise funds for the organization, and every year I have the best intentions of making a quilt to donate. In the past, I've run out of time and end up making bags instead of a quilt, but this year I'm getting a jump on things. This Pride flag quilt is supposed to finish at 60 x 80 but I miscut my strips so I'm going to lose a few inches in width. I'm trying to work out what I can do to make it wider - I'm open to suggestions if you have any! Grumpy Emu also underwent surgery to correct a few misplaced pieces, and she is recovering nicely. She'll rest up for a bit while the pride flag and my QC submissions are completed and then she'll have the design wall to herself 🤗 What is everyone else working on? The cowgirl is heading home tomorrow, on her horse, with her bear, and her tiger, with a pack of matches so she can burn the whole thing down with all the feminine rage the 6 of us have created in the last 6 months. This quilt is amazing and my photos don’t do it justice. It’s almost as big as a king-sized top sheet. I can’t wait to see her quilted. Aaaaand just like that, it's a wrap on Natalie's, @little_girl_seamstress, round robin quilt for the #bestnestroundrobin2026 hosted by @niki.keating. It was absolutely am honor to work with the amazeballs quilters in our group of resistance quilters: 1. Natalie, whose "nest egg" is the center, "I was Led To Believe There Would Be Liberty & Justice For All", 2. Samantha, who added the watchful eyes, 3. Meesh, @silverlinedstitches, who added round 3, More Pride, Less Prejudice, 4. Pam, @pamdorra, who added the Staute of Liberty and teardrops 5. Amilya, @amilbedil added the Grief image, and I can't remember if Pam or Amilya added the We The People Create The Future or if they both contributed. The last round was mine and I followed up on the Staute of Liberty with an excerpt from The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus that graces the pedestal at the base of this iconic symbol, along with a reminder that our democracy belongs to the people and WE WILL RISE UP AND RECLAIM IT! The words and stars were created with raw edge applique so that they will fray a bit at the edges, but they are stitched down and will withstand a lot of abuse 🔥 It's heading out to you tomorrow Natalie and it's a beast! The last slide is a Pic of rejected blocks that didn't work into robin quilts as intended. I hope to combine them into a piece that will remind me of the friendships that were formed and the creativity that abounded in our nest. Women of a Certain Rage Holy shit, this quilt is behind my wildest dreams and expectations, thanks to the talented and creative artists in my #bestnestroundrobin2026 group -I really did hit the jackpot with: Natalie, @little_girl_seamstress Samantha Flores Meesh, @silverlinedstitches Pam, @pamdorra Amilya, @amilbedil What started as a low volume "fuck you" to the #pantonecolorchallenge, took on a life of its own as soon as it left my hands. The details are absolutely perfect and completely unexpected- who knew neon would complement low volume colors so well? This work embodies our rage at so many things - the patriarchy, the current political administration, and the relentless attacks on education, healthcare, immigrants, LGBTQ+ persons, books, history, research and so much more. I can't believe this is the last month of our Resistance Round Robin. It has been an honor to work on all of these quilts and be able to interact with such a talented and amazing group.
