Kicking the year off with some experiments with our friends at Ainatech and @creamsource , 75x 8k Red cameras recording a lot of lighting set-ups per frame. 2.65 billion pixels per frame x hundreds of possible lighting combinations. Having fun! by @satellite_lab

We’re excited to share that @taikawaititi and @carlovanderoer have been awarded a 2025 Lumen Prize for Toru, a three-channel video installation and interactive film, created with PlateLight.

Thrilled to see Toru as a finalist for the Lumen Prize. A triptych in which each of the three films operates as a different recollection or interpretation of the same performance. Filmed using PlateLight to capture the same moment with different lighting conditions as separate pieces of footage. This results in three versions of the same film, presenting a record of the past as photographically accurate, yet fluid and authorable like myth. by @satellite_lab

Working with our PlateLight approach, the Red V-Raptor X and Creamsource Vortex8 lights, to capture 8 separate lighting plates of the same take on the same camera under flicker free lighting. Here we're also viewing live adjustments to color and levels of the lighting plates and combining them as non-destructive live composites to create lighting looks on set, while also recording the unaffected lighting plates for creative flexibility.

A sneak peek at Charles Yu’s Interior Chinatown series (based on his equally brilliant book).
The team developed a look that references the spectrum of genres the show travels through and the light-emitting RGB optics of CRT video games in the 1990s. For this scene, @satellite_lab captured each take under multiple lighting setups using our PlateLight technology. This allowed us to change, control, and shape our live-action lighting in the post, in response to performance and editing, while also sculpting the ‘void’ environment through an interplay of light and optics.

Thanks to a talented team, including Stephanie Laing and Mike Berlucci, Starring Jimmy O, Yang, and Chris Pang.

Ahead of heading to NAB, looking back at some of the cameras we have tested or worked with, and one we've just stared at (The Millennium XL2). Arri Alexa (still love the 65), Sony Venice 2, Red V-Raptor XL and Komodo, Phantom Flex 4k and Onyx, Freefly Ember, missing some photos of our Blackmagic. (This time with audio) A short peak at some of our work on Charles Yu’s Interior Chinatown series (based on his equally brilliant book). We developed a look that references the spectrum of genres the show travels through and the light emitting RGB optics of CRT video games in the 1990s.

For this scene, on a practical set, we captured each take under multiple lighting setups simultaneously using our PlateLight technology. This allowed us to change, control and shape our live action lighting in post, in response to performance and edit, while also sculpting the ‘void’ environment through an interplay of light and optics.

Feeling very lucky to have worked with such a collaborative and talented team, including Stephanie Laing and Mike Berlucci, this scene starring Jimmy O, Yang and Chris Pang. The whole season is fantastic.
