Drew McManus of @satsang reflects on ten years of loss, change, rebuilding, and a spiritual journey that found its way into ELOHIM.

In our conversation, he shared what it means to make a record from everything you’ve lived through, and finally recognize yourself in it.

If you've ever helped someone and then felt the weight of their thank-you, this one's for you.

I asked Drew McManus of @satsang what he actually feels when someone tells him his music got them through the worst of it. First word out: gratitude. Then he admitted it used to make him really uncomfortable.

What changed it was his ex-wife's uncle Chris, a Buddhist, who watched a whole sold-out show in Seattle from the balcony, locked in on Drew while everyone else danced. Last night of the tour, Drew's at the merch booth signing everything. Chris cuts the line, kisses him on the cheek, says one sentence, and walks away.

"The healing is real, the adoration is not."

Drew's carried it as a mantra ever since. The healing belongs to the listener. He didn't do anything. They did. All he prays for is to be useful while he's here.

Episode 77 of The Drop the Needle Podcast is out now. Link in bio.

Garcia's Chicago, November 4th. I'll be there.

Whose song did the healing for you? Drop a 🎵 below.

Tomorrow is going to be a good one.

I’m sitting down with @drew_mcmanus_ of @satsang for a conversation I’ve been genuinely excited about.

We’re talking music, faith, growth, redemption, life, and his newest album, Elohim.

I’ve listened to Drew’s music for years, and some of it has honestly hit me at exactly the right time in my own life.

So getting the chance to sit down with him, ask the questions I’ve wanted to ask, and go deeper than the music itself is pretty damn cool.

We’ll also get into his upcoming show at @sugarshack_downtown on November 13.

This is one I’ve been looking forward to.

Tomorrow.
