Yesterday was such a nourishing day I am still cloud walking today.

Hosting, curating, performing, artist wrangling, interior designing, etc etc my own Salon was a wild ride but I woke up today feeling so happy and nourished.

I keep thinking about how a room changes when people decide to listen carefully to one another.
Thank you to everyone who made the first Erato's Salon possible. Especially @samuelbirdsong and @l0rdviking for helping me set up the space and being my cheerleaders from day one.

Also huge shout out to @ponyexpressnola for making us the best food and @sir_daveedavee for being the benefactor for the meal.

Oh yeah!! Also I'm academically published now 🥰
Transformer is a publication produced through Rice University’s Department of Art research group, teamLab. The journal explores alternative forms of pedagogy and knowledge-making beyond the dominant frameworks of Western hegemonic education. It gathers artists, writers, and researchers whose work approaches learning as experimental, embodied, collaborative, and interdisciplinary rather than strictly institutional or academic. Very in line with the direction I'm trying to go for PhD 🥹

Ok that's it for now I'll give a bigger shout out later but I'm going to sleep for a week.

Love love love everyone and my community and my city and art making ⚜️ see you next time by @saturnvox

In this episode of @khimairapod, V speaks with singer, artist, and composer Nika Danilova (@zolajesus) about voice, performance, alienation, discipline, noise, opera, and the unstable process of becoming visible through sound.

Together they move through questions of self-expression as a process shaped by fear, training, contradiction, embodiment, and transformation. The conversation lingers in the tension between control and surrender, refinement and ferality, mediation and raw expression, asking what it means to build a voice capable of carrying an inner life into the world.

Tune in for an episode that approaches the voice as something forged through discipline, exposure, and the ongoing process of becoming audible-the grief and transformation of learning how to inhabit the self through craft, attention, and care over time.

Featuring the song OTKUDA written, produced, and performed by Zola Jesus

You've pulled three tarot cards. You know what each one means. But what are they saying together?

Why does the same card seem to say something different every time it appears? How do you know which symbols matter, which connections to follow, or whether your interpretation makes sense?

These are questions of language. And tarot is a language worth learning to speak.

TAROT AS LANGUAGE is a five-month course for curious beginners and experienced readers who want to explore how tarot makes meaning, and how to participate in that process themselves.

Together, we'll study the Major and Minor Arcana, astrology, Qabbalah, elemental correspondences, and the history of tarot. We'll investigate why the cards mean what they mean, how their symbols speak to one another, and what happens when those meanings encounter the particular circumstances of a reading.

Through conversation, collaborative study, and hands-on practice, we'll put that knowledge to work. You'll learn to recognize patterns, follow symbolic relationships, ask better questions, and develop interpretations that are both technically grounded and imaginatively alive.

You don't need to arrive knowing how to read tarot. And if you've been reading for years, you don't need to leave your intuition at the door.

Bring your curiosity. We'll give it plenty to work with. 🫶🏻

✦ Begins November 23

✦ Five-month course

✦ Monthly enrollment and full-course options available now through November 21st

✦ 10 students max capacity

Explore the course and sign up through the 🔗 in B👁️‍🗨️O.

Brooklyn says my name badly
from three blocks away

"Vaudevillian vixen,
your visage need not be a veneer
of vanity, but a vendetta
of vengeance against the violence
of the vermin who left you

very hungry. Here,
have an apple."

I bite down, juice breaking
through skin across
my teeth and down, cooling
the back of my mouth.

I had forgotten hunger
could end this way—
without remainder. Nothing
accumulated. Just digestive

enzymes breaking up
fiber into fluids. By nightfall
I am hungry again.
Brooklyn calls;

"The dream of every lad
that ever threw a leg over
a thoroughbred and the goal
of all horsemen, so be not like
the mule controlled by bit or by bridle,

here. Have an apple."
These possible pronunciations
of my powerful name pound
like pebbles knocking heartbeats

on pavement. I rise, running
and returning—a stretch
of my hips, a snake up
my spine, and water's dripping

down my lips, across
my tounge, from the box
between my legs. Little moments
of magic melting sugar into glucose

inside of me. When I piss
later it will make my eyes
turn white. Ah, a votive
held not in vain.

I have been thinking ab home bc I am leaving New Orleans, & my spirits keep calling the move a "homecoming"

The word bothered me.

New Orleans is home bc it gave me an extraordinary freedom to become inhabitable to myself. It makes room. Here poverty sits beside pageantry, death beside dancing, humility beside ornament. Nothing has to stop being wounded before it is allowed to become beautiful. The overgrowth of the swamp an equal part of her terror & grace.

I arrived carrying enormous weight. Old restrictions on how a person should look, desire, make, mourn, celebrate, survive, all began to loosen. Little by little, the water rotted these structures away. New Orleans gifted me the inhabiting of my own center. My own skin. This is how I recognized New Orleans truly loved me.

Maybe that is one meaning of the Big Easy—not that living here is easy, lord knows it can be the Big Hard materially, but that difficult lives can become strangely easier to inhabit.

But that only makes the word "homecoming" stranger.

How can I come home to somewhere I have never lived? Homecoming contains a claim of return. In going somewhere new I am somehow also going back? It begs the question, back to what?

I can't see the self as a little sovereign creature contained by the perimeter of my skin. So perhaps household might be a better image: singular w/o being solitary, becoming one thing through the relations that compose it.

Maybe a self does too.

Cities, ppl, spirits, lovers, friends, the dead, do not merely surround me. These relations participate in producing the thing I call me.

Perhaps home & self resemble one another bc both are ecologies. Home might be one name for the relations through which a self becomes inhabitable to itself.

A place cannot be what is returning bc already, I am. I already belong;

Perhaps becoming increasingly capable of inhabiting the relations that constitute me as my life. Now, strangely, that movement requires departure.

Maybe this is the final grace New Orleans offers me: she loves me but does not have to own or possess me. Belonging here does not require my permanence.

& luckily, I find a tremendous amount of eroticism in traveling. taken in French Quarter by @saturnvox

One time I asked my spirits where my power comes from and they said Princess of Disks and then I asked what that means and they gave me cards that said "power through cultivating right relation" & that's why I don't need vertical power guarantees. I am powerful bc I am in fluid relation with all life around me 😮‍💨🌲🤍 you can never unroot the silt I've settled in bb by @saturnvox

I will let you all in on a secret insight into my deepest pain, anxiety, & site of alchemical transformation:

Me, the Saturn-ruled baby who can't stop feeling emo ab her relationship w time 😔 low key my problem w time is being subject to its limitations w/o right exchange or reciprocity. I don't like it when anything imposes power over me bc my preferred orientation is horizontal relation.

It's like ok, if time is determined, then tell me what's going to happen so I have agency within whatever is available to me w/i box-universe constraints.

If time is malleable, then I want to be taught how to be in relationship w it such that it can be shaped to meet my will, instead of imposing itself upon me and repeatedly producing an interval between desire & its object.

Unless either of these conditions are met, I will continue to experience time as an oppressor because it is not in relation with me. It imposes a hierarchy of power over me while remaining indifferent to what I want from it. I will never respect or consent to being trained into accepting submission to something like that.

My suspicion is that part of the answer lies in how we metaphorically orient ourselves around certain words: abundance, capacity, distance, will.

That's why I cook up tasty questions to eat 🤤What happens to desire when distance is understood as something other than lack? What happens to capacity when it means something other than learning to tolerate deprivation? What would it mean for will to operate w/i limitation w/o becoming subordinate to it? So nourishing!! Yummy!!

Removing a much longer diatribe, tldr; I think this drive is the foundation of all witches & their devil contracts 🐐

If the world has conditions I cannot simply override, then in some way shape or form the witch has wished for access to the machinery.

Lucky me!! I get to be a magical girl!! by @saturnvox

When we think about consciousness, we usually imagine it as something located inside an individual. I am in here. You are in there. The world is outside us.

From w/i this picture, knowing seems fairly straightforward. Something outside me enters my perception, I process it internally, & eventually I know something ab it. Knowledge has moved from the world into me.

Notice what happens when we describe this process. We say I have a thought. I have knowledge. I have a mind. I have a body. Again & again, the sentence takes the same form: there is an “I,” & then there is something that belongs to it.

Usually this doesn't seem strange. If I say “I have a body,” everyone knows what I mean. But if we stay w the sentence for a moment, a weird question appears: what exactly is the “I” doing the having?

Maybe the answer is the mind. But then we say I have a mind too. The grammar keeps implying an owner that somehow sits behind the things we ordinarily use to explain what a person is.

So I want to try removing the owner for a moment. A step beyond Descartes.

The words w which I'm thinking came from other people; what I notice has been shaped through encounters w them; what I can become changes through the relations I enter. None of this requires us to become the same. Perhaps boundaries are more fluid than they initially appear.

That possibility feels politically important to me. So many of our ethical & political questions begin after separation has already been assumed: What is mine? What is yours? What do I owe you? How much of myself must I surrender to you? We negotiate what may cross the boundary w/o asking why difference had to mean absolute separation in the first place.

If the same epistemological soil remains underneath them, Self & Other can keep growing back in different variations. So I am left to wonder what becomes possible once we allow these fixed definitions to tell us their own names, show us their moving forms.

As my undergrad advisor used to say to me; "a chair is only a chair from my side," but what is the chair, if not an expression of rest, of self care, of grace given to bodies? by @saturnvox

A midrash of Gen 2&3 by V 🌲

It is written that no plant had yet sprung from the earth, “for there was no adam to work the adamah” (Genesis 2:5). Growth waits in the ground for cultivation.

Then YHWH Elohim forms adam from adamah & breathes life into them. The one who will work the ground is themselves made from ground. Through divine breath, adamah becomes nefesh ḥayyah: earth alive & capable of tending earth.

Only afterward does YHWH plant a gan b’Eden & place the adam there. A river goes out from Eden to water the gan, so Eden extends beyond the garden while sustaining what grows within it. The gan gives this abundance a place & a boundary.

Then YHWH causes every tree to spring from the adamah. Adam & tree arise from common ground into different forms of life. W/i the gan, earth encounters earth across difference: one form grows, another tends, & each belongs to the ground beneath them.

YHWH places the adam there le-ovdah u-leshomrah, to work it & to keep it. The adam cultivates what has arisen from the same adamah from which they were formed. Cultivation is the relation that becomes possible between these differentiated forms of a shared life.

After the fall, the adam still works the adamah from which they were formed, & the adamah still brings forth. Thorn & thistle now rise from the ground, & the adam eats through toil & sweat. The earth has become difficult to the earth-creature, & the earth-creature experiences their own ground as resistance.

Yet the adam who sweats over the adamah is still adamah given breath. The distance between cultivator & cultivated can become painful, even violent, w/o making them separate substances. We are earth tending earth, even when we have forgotten how to belong to it.

Maybe it is ok to dream; ask of life, living waters, after the fall 🌊🐝 by @saturnvox
