Is Love Badness?

An experiment in form: a work of sound composed through field recordings, voice messages, and an essay written from lived experience.

Fragments of speech, ambient noise, and lived memory move together here. Composed from collected sound, the piece turns toward harm, desire, rage, and repair as forces felt in the body. Voices, weather, static, and thought sit beside each other as components of intra-action—where no sound stands alone and each is felt in the body of the listener through its relation to others.

Therefore, this experiment challenges the listener to stay attentive within a post-essay structure, attuning themselves to new possibilities in listening and relation.
This episode asks for patience with overlap and the willingness to stay in discomfort without avoiding it.

Best heard with time, through speakers or headphones, without rushing to a conclusion
____

Collected sounds from this episode come from;

Field recordings of woodlands and by highway fields during my Volcano Road Trip after my father's funeral last spring
Voice Messages from friends @sidhshowdu13, @littlpitterpatter, and @caraclaymore
Psalms sung by Rabbi Shefa Gold
An explanation of Karen Barad’s theories of intra-action and agential realism from the Leverhulme Institute I | Session II | Close Reading Karen Barad | Feb 2014
Invocation of PGM VII.862--918, "the Lunar Spell of Klaudianos and the ritual of heaven and the north star"
Noise and Beats produced, reduced, and abstracted by V
Essay from end of episode can be read in full on @saturnvox Autobiography of a Halfling blog

February you were a time. So absolutely worn out but even more thankful!
Thank you to @la_soy_emmy @captolia.online @saturnvox @ishpimingastro and @aryn.the.alchemist for creating digital spaces and teaching lessons that got me through the month, and some months before it, and who are carrying me through what’s coming as well.
So blessed to have my amazing @oldfashioned_abe and so many amazing friends by my side.
Sorry I’ve been slightly absent. Eclipse season has hit me like a tidal wave. Im letting it wash over me and carry me through. We will see what Pisces season holds. I’ll try to check in more often but I’m in dream land babes!!!
See you on the other side 🌊🌸💖

The gallery’s vibe feels so fitting for Valentine’s Day! Here’s a passage about the exhibition from the lovely curator @saturnvox about the show! 🎆

Under capitalism, we experience both love and self as polished products, turning the relation between self and other into transactions. Instead of entering relation as a site of transformation, we approach others to reinforce our curated identity. Vulnerability, interdependence, and emotional messiness-core aspects of real connection-are framed as signs of instability. People become mirrors or leverage, not co-participants. Alienation is marketed as emotional stability. To be untouched is to be good.
Art, shaped by the same system, becomes a double agent. It can open a path back to relation-tender, disruptive, uncontrollable. Or it can reinforce the very machinery it critiques. It can turn feeling into image, rupture into icon, and icon into content. Even when it gestures toward transformation, it can still be absorbed into forms that keep the viewer safe: able to recognize, but not participate.
This exhibition treats art as a threshold-not inherently redemptive, not inherently corrupt, but a ceremonial pressure point along the caldera’s edge.

Come practice some self love magic and introspection while immersed in this exhibition ✨

V @saturnvox is an interdisciplinary artist and writer working across sonic installation, sculptural photography, performance-poetics, and critical essay. Their work treats sound and image as forms of contact—sensory structures through which grief, desire, and intimacy are shaped by time and by the political economies that organize feeling. Through field recordings, processed voice, autobiographical photography, and mythic narrative fabrications, they build environments that function as both archive and ethical encounter: spaces where witnessing becomes an active material practice. They are the founder of SaturnVox, a platform for experimental writing, daimonic witchcraft, and research-driven art events, curation, and practices.
