An update on International House!

Thank you to every single one of you who has reshared our videos, objected to the planning application, came to the banner making workshop & joined us at the rally!

200+ objections and one rally later, the GLA & the Mayor have said that there is no basis for them to intervene in the redevelopment application.

So what does this mean?

The application is going back to Lambeth Council. We are putting forward a deputation request to speak at the next full council meeting (October 14th) and will continue to apply pressure. We cannot do this without you! Please continue to sign and share the petition. The more signatures we get, the harder it will be for Lambeth to make this decision democratically!

Petition link in bio! If you are struggling to sign the petition, these are some things that we have found to be helpful:

1) put "Greater London" as the county
2) switch to a laptop if you can
3) clear your cache through your settings

@mayorofldn Brixton is suffering enough! Save International House from luxury housing!

International House, in the heart of Brixton, has been serving Lambeth residents by housing 141 charities on reduced/peppercorn rent. @londonsquaredevelopments & @lambeth_council want to evict us from our home and refurbish our home into primarily luxury flats.

With child poverty rates ranging 31 to 39%, our borough is suffering enough. The last thing we need is for the services that are tackling food poverty (@living_platform @lambethlarder @food.foundation ) and offering youth spaces centred around creativity, mental health support, youth crime prevention and employability. (@wearebreadwinners @girlsunitedfa @grooveschool @chefsinschools_uk @_feathersup @lambethschoolspatrol
@werisebrixton @yes_futures) to be evicted with no real relocation plan that would allow them to continue to offer these vital services!

Do not let @londonsquaredevelopments & @lambeth_council evict 141 charities for luxury housing!

3Space International House is a community asset in the heart of Brixton that houses 141 charities, creatives and a range of enterprises.

Our living wage building has been supporting Brixton, Lambeth & the wider London for years through youth crime prevention, emergency food parcels, creativity & support for local businesses. Evicting us without offering us alternative workspaces with the same offer (rent-free/peppercorn leases) means that many of us won't be able to continue offering this support.

@sadiq is currently deciding whether the application to refurbish our home into luxury flats will be approved or not. Please help us convince him to do the right thing!

Community is core at international House.

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE RALLY OUTSIDE CITY HALL (E16 1ZE) TODAY AT 12PM! 🚨🚨🚨

'International House is unique because of the community it brings together. Together, we achieve far greater impact than any organisation could alone. The loss of International House would not simply mean relocating organisations. It would dismantle years of collaboration, remove genuinely affordable workspace from Brixton and the future of many community services at risk.
The value of International House cannot be measured simply by the organisations it houses, but by the thousands of Lambeth residents whose lives are improved because those organisations are able to work together from one affordable community hub' - Richie from @grooveschool

Today is the last day that we can try and influence the fate of International House. If @Sadiq approves the redevelopment, we risk losing hundreds of community organisations, and hundreds of community members who have been working hard to support us over the past 9 years. The impact that this would have on our communities is too devastating to quantify.

🚨Brixton's communities are under threat!🚨

For almost 10 years, 3Space International House has been serving our communities when we have needed it the most. Food poverty, a lack of third & youth spaces and youth unemployment are just a few of the things that International House's 141 charities have been tackling.

@londonsquaredevelopments & @lambeth_council want to evict our community and refurbish the building into primarily luxury housing.

A lot of the charities working there have annual revenues below 10k. Eviction from free/peppercorn leases would be the end of their services. Once they are gone, they are gone. The last thing we need is luxury housing to replace them.

@sadiq will decide the fate of International House & its hundreds of tenants tomorrow.

Join our rally tomorrow to let him know that we are tired of community services being ripped from us whilst we continue to struggle.

International House is the frontline, but the real fight is for the soul of Brixton. ❤️‍🔥

International House is currently the home of 141 charities working on free/peppercorn leases to support our Lambeth communities and beyond. Through the provision of youth spaces & youth services, resources for the unhoused, support for young refugees and asylum seekers, International House has been quietly taking care of all of us and our communities for years.

@londonsquare & @lambeth_council plan on evicting all these charities to make space for a primarily luxury development. A lot of the charities working at International House have annual turnovers smaller than 10k, and anything that is not free or peppercorn leases means that their services be severely reduced, or completely ceased.

What is London if it becomes nothing more than a sea of luxury apartments?

The true soul of this city isn’t built in corporate boardrooms. It’s curated by the tastemakers, the creatives, and the grassroots community organisers who bring diverse people together. For years, Brixton has been the beating heart of this energy, and spaces like International House have served as vital sanctuaries for the people doing the real work on the ground.

But this fight is about so much more than a single building. It is about the devastating ripple effects that follow. Once International House is gone, the surrounding areas will inevitably disappear with it, repurposed to cater to the exact interests that are pushing out the communities that make Brixton, Brixton.

In this era of relentless privatisation, community leaders and local groups deserve more than just our gratitude. They need a physical place to stay, to collaborate, and to thrive.

If we let spaces like International House fall, we lose the culture that makes London what it is. We cannot allow our community hubs to be hollowed out. It is time to stand with the organisers who have always stood up for us.
