🥳Some important news, the redevelopment of Lewisham Shopping has been halted!!!

🗣️Landsec claims that it was solely due to economic conditions, but do not be mistaken. The strength of our campaign in removing their labour lackeys, the huge turnout we had at our rallies showing community discontent and pushing our mayor @liamshrivastava to commendably block the CPO of Lewisham House were nails in the coffin for this £500 million gamble.

🙏🏾With the Landsec redevelopment plans halted this now gives room for alternative proposals that actually focus on upgrading our town centre without causing mass displacement. Focusing on refurbishment and working with the existing architecture.

❗This is the strength of Community Organising! Don't get it twisted without people joining the Save Lewisham Shopping Centre campaign this wouldn't of happened.

✊🏾We are Lewisham, South Londoners when there is a threat to us we unite together and we ALWAYS fight back!

United we will never be defeated 🗣️

FROM 31 OCTOBER, COMMUNITIES WILL HAVE LESS SAY OVER WHAT GETS BUILT.

New government planning rules will strip councils of much of their power to decide which applications go before elected councillors.

In Lewisham, 10 objections can currently trigger a planning committee hearing. That right is being taken away.

Developers support the changes. Many councils and community groups have opposed them.

And Lewisham Council has said remarkably little.

Planning decisions affect all of us. So why are residents and elected councillors losing their say?

Swipe to find out what's changing, who's behind it and what it means for Lewisham.

The last few months have felt like Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. I’ve been constantly inspired by the communities I’m talking to week in, week out, it’s rare that I leave a conversation these days without feeling total admiration for the work being built around me. There’s something so organic growing beneath the surface. New systems, new economies, new ways of being.

My days have been a complete blur of teaching economics, dancing at festivals celebrating liberated futures, and sitting in rooms with decision-makers to make sure our energy is documented in policy and actually lasts. I’ve essentially been dragged into all these spaces (emphasis on dragged) by brilliant people who share the same values and want to figure out how we work together.

Alongside my Next Generation Foresight Practitioners fellowship @nxtgenforesight it’s got me thinking deeply about the exact tools and methodologies we need so people can consult and design their own futures.

Is it heavy intellectual labor? Absolutely. Do I have days where I wish I could focus on something completely minuscule? Constantly. But let’s not fool ourselves, my brain wouldn’t last two minutes doing anything else.

Grateful for the chaos, the community, and the work 🫶🏾

HELP SAVE INTERNATIONAL HOUSE 📣 // Brixton's International House is at risk- and with the current petition, organizers have recently found out that they actually need 3,000 signatures (!!) by Sept 30th to trigger a full council debate on the issue.

International House is a community hub for many small charitible organizations- and this petition could help to spark a debate to help it stay that way, rather than being taken over by developers for luxury flats.

Please sign, share and spread the word about the petition- deadline Sept 30th!

🔗Link in our bio to sign the petition, and check out @save_nour for more info!
