Grant House Supports Cal Poly Swimming & Diving!

There’s been a lot of conversation around budget cuts in college athletics, and unfortunately, a lot of blame is being misdirected. We’ve seen some negative responses regarding the involvement with the House v. NCAA lawsuit, so to clarify something important: this lawsuit is not the direct reason Cal Poly cut its swimming program.

Yes, there are changes happening in college sports, and yes, schools are having to adjust. But in this case, it seems like the situation is being used as a scapegoat. The decision to eliminate and block the return of a successful and respected swim program feels less about financial necessity and more about convenience for the department.

Athletes deserve to be paid for the work they put in — that doesn’t mean we have to lose the sports we love in the process.

Please consider supporting Cal Poly and fighting for the restoration of our swim program. This sport deserves better.

How can you help?

Like this post, share it, and spread the word! Talking about what is going on in our sport is equally as important as donating!

Cal Poly Swimming & Diving was unjustly cut on March 7, despite achieving incredible milestones this past season with countless team records and top 5 program marks. The men’s team had its first undefeated season in Division I history, multiple conference championship event wins, earned honors such as Conference Newcomer and Coach of the Year, and achieved the highest GPA of all men’s sports at Cal Poly. Despite these remarkable accomplishments, our team was eliminated without warning.
The university cites an annual loss of $450,000 from NCAA settlements as the main cause. However, when our athletic director was asked if he would accept a donation of $10 million to save the team, he said he would not accept it. This NCAA lawsuit was foreseen by our athletics department, yet they reassured us in September that their goal was to save sports. At the start of the season, they gave us a fundraising goal of $80,000, to which parents, alumni, and others raised enough to meet and exceed this amount. This is not about money — this is an attack on our sport.
This isn’t just about saving our team; it’s about standing up for the sport of swimming. A loss of our program is a loss of an opportunity for countless young swimmers today. This decision sets a dangerous precedent for non-revenue sports across the country. Please sign and share our petition, and help us.

Cal Poly just announced plans to add women’s
STUNT and possibly flag football, programs that will cost the university additional money, after rejecting our $9 million fundraising effort.

President Donald Trump issued a new executive order requiring that any
revenue-sharing between universities and athletes be structured to protect women’s and non-revenue sports. It also mandates preserving, and when possible expanding, scholarship and competitive opportunities for female athletes and non-revenue programs, ensuring the are not cut or disadvantaged.

A federal court ruled against Stephen F. Austin State
University, where the judge declared that financial hardship is not a valid reason to cut women’s teams. The ruling reaffirmed that Title IX requires schools to fully accommodate female students’ athletic interests and abilities, and rejected SFA’s claim that it was too late to reinstate teams, stating that timing is no excuse for violating the law. All three women’s teams were reinstated.

They tried. They raised. They got shafted.

The math doesn’t make sense but sadly Cal Poly rejected the bid from Save Cal Poly Swim & Dive anyway. by @savecpswimdive

Cal Poly Alum Drew Huston stopped by the mixed zone to discuss his U.S. Nationals campaign and the ongoing battle to save the Mustangs D1 Swim Team.

Huston swam a personal best 54.89 in the 100 backstroke C-Final last night to crack 55 for the first time in his career. He's headed to the USC Trojans in the fall for his master's degree.

The student athletes at @savecpswimdive have raised over 8 million dollars in an effort to save their cut program. The Cal Poly school president has set the marker at 15 million dollars by June 15th to fully bring back the team this fall.

We’re Almost There — Let’s Finish This!

We are excited to share that our fundraising goal has been reduced from 20M to 15M! This change was made possible through negotiations between President Armstrong and a group of parents supporting our reinstatement effort.

The stakes are high, please share!

We need 6M more to save Cal Poly Swim and Dive!

There are only two weeks left until the deadline on June 15th.

Click the link in our bio to make a pledge or donate to the GoFundMe. You can also screenshot this post and use the QR code to give directly.

Every share, every dollar, and every second counts.
