The Secret Life of Ekphrasis
Workshop & Reading with Erin Honeycutt, Cru Encarnação & Saverio Cantoni

This workshop, led by Saverio Cantoni and Erin Honeycutt, takes ekphrasis as a methodology, a practice of translation between senses, mediums, and forms of attention. Taking its cue from Stevie Wonder's Journey Through "The Secret Life of Plants" a soundtrack composed from written descriptions of a documentary never fully seen, they ask what travels when one sense hands its information to another, and what is necessarily lost, transformed, or invented in the crossing?

Transcriptions will be written into a shared score, using Nina Paszkowski’s Furore exhibition as a guide, followed by a performance by Cru Encarnação.

Erin Honeycutt is a writer and bookmaker based in Berlin, where they run CUTT PRESS, a publishing project exploring the materiality of writing. They are the author of Dear Enheduanna (2025) and Night School (2026), as well as various zines and novelettes.

Cru Encarnação is a performance artist and writer based between Berlin and Portugal. Their practice explores masculinity, stage magic, the history of science and trans discourse, focusing on mechanisms of wonder, illusion, deception and belief.

Saverio Cantoni is a white-passing oral–Deaf artist based in Berlin. Working with sonics, haptic experiences and assistive technologies, their practice explores the “aesthetics of access” through text, visuals and audible experiences.

Artistic programme

The third act of the artistic annual programme, titled Nowhere will world be, but within, brings the year’s exploration of the theme Hauntings/ Heimsuchungen to a close — a process that has unfolded at the Bärenzwinger over the past months.

What began with the question of how the hidden can be brought to the surface and transformed now culminates in a process of reorientation and re-situating: A walk with the Amazonen through and around the Bärenzwinger on Friday evening sharpens our attention to what lies in the immediate surroundings. After the walk, C.D. Noé will present a live concert.

On Saturday, the DJ set by Sonoki creates a shared space for coming together. Tess Voelker’s dance performance traces the inner complexity of experience and asks what happens when the inside moves outward. The programme concludes on Sunday with an ekphrasis workshop by Erin Honeycutt, Cru Encarnação und Saverio Cantoni.

Thank you to everyone who came out to see the ENTER/PUBLIC/STAGE performance festival!

Last weekend performances, workshops and tours took over ROZENSTRAAT and several parts of the city.

We welcomed Jennifer Tosch’s Black Heritage Tours, specially developed for this exhibition, had people walk around the Jordaan with the interactive audio tour by PolakVanBekkum, and reflected on activist practices during Mapping Solidarity for Palestine. We saw Giulia Damiani perform a try-out of her new work on several occasions, and listened to the live musical performance and poetry reading by Çağlar Köseoğlu and Saverio Cantoni in the Amstelkerk. Finally, we came together for an absurdist closing moment in the park with a performance by Geo Wyex.

For those who missed the weekend, stay tuned… We have an extra Mapping Solidarity workshop and PolakVanBekkum participative performance coming up. by @saveriocantoni

‘throw a stone: Ramallah looks violet from the night of justice’ is a live reading and sonic performance by poet Çağlar Köseoğlu and sound artist Saverio Cantoni. Structured around four poems engaging the ongoing war and genocide in Palestine, the work treats text as a live score, improvising across voice and sound in real time.

The performance is followed by an artist talk. Free entry, no registration required.

We need additional fundraising support for Ibrahim’s family in Gaza. They continue to need donations to survive due to the ongoing genocide. Our current team has been supporting them for over two years, but consists of only 3–4 active people. We need more help to distribute the workload.

We are looking for:

1️⃣ People to reach out to their friends and family to make regular donations to Ibrahim’s Chuffed account (5–30 minutes total). We can provide a template for you to edit and send.

2️⃣ People to organize external events or fundraising initiatives, with proceeds going to the fundraiser. Time commitment varies depending on event size – anything helpful is welcome.

“Costura, hypertextos sonoros” de Claudia Medeiros e Saverio Cantoni propõe um encontro que entrelaça o som da palavra e de instrumentos acústicos e elétricos, acompanhado pela tradução simultânea em libras.
Mundos diferentes se cruzam através das visões da janela de um ônibus durante uma viagem de São Paulo ao Rio de Janeiro e de dias pontuais que atravessam o genocídio e apagamento de Gaza, onde a vulnerabilidade de pessoas com deficiências físicas é totalmente ignorada pela barbarie sionista, que as levou à morte junto a cerca de 70.000 palestinos assassinados durante os ataques iniciados em sete de outubro de 2023. Saverio relembra quatro casos pontuais ocorridos com pessoas surdas, amputadas ou com outras restrições ligadas à mobilidade, casos de vidas eliminadas, as quais Claudia relaciona com a destruição e apagamento de inteiros territórios naturais, como aqueles que foram cortados por tantas estradas…. Distopias não ficcionais que se acumulam sob o olhar de um mundo anestesiado que necessita urgentemente ser reanimado.
