Sawback photographer Anna Sellers takes us onto the skin track during our 2026 JaPow Honshu trip this past January. In this Sawback blog, she reflects on what slowing down in the mountains truly means, while capturing different perspectives from a ski day in Myoko.

""The unique shape of the mountains, a fracture in the snow along a ridge in the distance, the scraggly branches of the trees reaching out as if to try and grab you. On this day specifically, there was a light casting shadows on the snow before quickly disappearing as the sun slipped behind a cloud. It felt like the light was dancing with the trees, and I, in the background, dancing with the snow.""" taken in Honshu, Japan by @sawbackalpine

Shortly after their trip to Seiland House in Norway this spring, we sat down with Sawback guests Ayla and Aidan to chat about their time in the Arctic and skiing with Sawback. 🇳🇴

In this week’s blog, the couple shares stories from their trip, along with some amazing images Aidan captured along the way. We loved hearing about their experience and getting a glimpse of Seiland House and the amazing terrain around this beautiful lodge through their eyes. Read their story and see the trip through their lens (link in bio ) ✨📸⛷ taken in Seiland National Park by @sawbackalpine

You've probably NEVER heard of this place...

Spend a day at the @burnieglacierchalet during one of my plein air painting group trips this summer.

Sunrise missions before breakfast

Hot coffee

Fresh baked croissants on a wood fire stove

A half hour hike to a stunning glacier

Instructional group painting session for 3-4 hours

Another half hour up to the craziest alpine flower field you'll ever experience

And then back down to the chalet for Après and dinner (always followed by dessert)

All guided by the incredible owners of @sawbackalpine

It's hard to believe it's a real place, but tucked up into the mountains of northern BC near Smithers, is a gem not many have been to yet.

Maybe you'll join us next year? ✨

Did you know that Sawback offers three different types of backcountry ski trips in Norway? 🇳🇴⛷️

Each one offers a unique way to explore the country and enjoy incredible skiing in spectacular locations.

❄️ Svalbard Ski & Sail
Travel deep into the Arctic, combining mountain turns with life aboard a sailboat.

🏔️ Fjords of Northern Norway
Another Ski & Sail trip, where you’ll descend from stunning summits right down to the water’s edge, surrounded by dramatic fjord scenery.

🏡 Seiland House
Settle into a warm and welcoming lodge and enjoy ski days right from the door, or venture across the fjords to explore the surrounding region.

Which trip is calling your name? taken in Norway by @sawbackalpine

Photo 1: @seamuszirnhelt skiing at the Burnie a month ago (Sept 5) on Outer Solitaire Glacier
Photo 2: taking down the Stevenson screen at Burnie's weather station -- one of Canada's last standing manual weather stations! This is at 1000m above sea level. That's a lot of snow! No wonder the Burnie Glacier still extends down to hut elevation.
Photo 3: Seamus and Robin approaching Solitaire Glacier at the Interruption Sept 5
Photo 4: Tom lying in the ferns at the base of the Via Ferrata route above the Interruption

Worried about the super El Niño? This winter the total snowpack depth was over 7m on Middle Solitaire Glacier (2300m). I'm not sure exactly how deep: I dug a 3.5 m deep hole, then shoved my 320cm probe into the bottom of the pit until my shoulder prevented me from pushing it in any deeper. So let's say we get half the snow we did last winter... We'll still be ok! by @sawbackalpine

Winter is fast approaching at Burnie Glacier Chalet, and we’d love to have you join us for some of Canada’s best (and least crowded) backcountry terrain.

Burnie offers the freedom of a private lodge with endless terrain right out the door: long, glaciated alpine objectives, reliable midwinter powder, epic tree skiing when the storms roll in, and typical touring days of 1,200–1,600 vertical metres.

There are still a few spots available for the 2027 season, including one last-minute opening for a full-chalet booking from January 8–15. A cancellation has opened up this week, and we’re offering it at 30% off for a group of family or friends. taken in Burnie Glacier Chalet by @sawbackalpine
