We are still in post, but I made us a little trailer, largely because I am still so fond of this one of Jay's early demos.

I was already delighted with the music the moment I got the very first scratchy voice memo of Jay noodling around on the guitar, but this version(or maybe one a little earlier but with worse sound quality) was the one that made me genuinely emotional knowing that of course this was all going to come together, and we would absolutely be making a satisfying piece of art with an amazing cast and crew.

We're in track to be done with post in September, and hope to spend a year doing some festivals, but if you supported the project via Kickstarter, I'll reach out with previews and screening invites soon!

There's not much better than making ridiculous and wonderful art with your pals, and that's what I've been doing.

The Last Fifteen Minutes is my first "real" short film, and it is a marionette opera that I've been working all summer with the brilliant @jayackley on. It's about neighbors eating dinner together in the face of unrelenting doom (the unrelenting doom, in this case, is a kaiju voiced by @erikaishii ).

The film features hand-carved wooden marionettes, meticulously built miniatures and sets, @matthewmercervo as three radios and @marionmartha as an elderly lesbian rat.

It's been really wonderful gathering friends together like a superhero team of people who make delightful things. I even have @monmiklas as producer and @ekkabecca as AD.

Testing the movement on my little dragon marionette. I do it this way to figure out where the strings can go in a way that gives him the largest range of motion. He is based on a medieval bestiary, Topsell's History of Four Footed Beasts(it is fairly expansive and has many animals with more than and less than four feet).

I'm making him as part of my visiting artist residency at @au.art.arthistory

I have returned to the graphic novel mines, and what is keeping me going is that I gave myself a story full of campgrounds and talking roadside attractions and one very good dog (in the first slide is the best drawing I have ever done featuring that good boy, and it is sadly only a 1/3rd page panel).

The eel is one of the real creatures documented in Edward Topsell's The History of Four Footed Beasts and Serpents. I got to see @aulibraries copy in their Special Collections and it was an absolute treat.

(and then I made an eel marionette as part of a residency with @au.art.arthistory. That was almost two years ago but I had a wonderful time, and am also just getting around to documenting some of those puppets!) by @sawdustbear

I've been having a nice revisit of books like Maze, Masquerade and The Secret and made a puzzle for my patrons, but I wanted to share it here too. It is a wordplay puzzle, requires no leaps of logic and the right answer(s) generally have supporting clues.

This woodcarved little dragon is based on a medieval drawing of a dragon from Edward Topsell's History of Four Footed Beasts, although he definitely only has two feet and I took some liberties with the design.

We went to Joshua Tree for a quick trip and puppets deserve some outdoor time too.

When you are just trying to take your marionette for a walk but he wants to sniff everything.

i built this marionette as part of a residency a couple years ago with Auburn University (@au.art.arthistory). He is an Ichneumon, a mythical medieval creature documented in Edward Topsell's The History of Four-Footed Beasts and Serpents. I got to see a copy of this book in their rare book collection (@aulibraries )! it was amazing and intimidating and I had a wonderful time.

If any university(or institution) wants to offer me some residency time to carve puppets, talk about marionettes with students and even lead simple marionette and puppet workshops, reach out! by @sawdustbear

We had live puppetry and flipnote animation at the bar earlier this week for Puppet Night at Wonderville! Hosted by @sawdustbear and @jayackley and featuring a screening of kaiju puppet films (including their short marionette musical, The Last Fifteen Minutes), live music with live puppetry accompaniment, and more 🦕 Thank you to the bands @birds.on.the.ground & @luckywitch.righteousghost, all the performers, and everyone who made it through the rain to see the show! taken in Wonderville by @sawdustbear

Thank you to everyone who joined @jayackley and I at @wondervillenyc yesterday for our record release party and work-in-progress screening! It was so gratifying to be able to show you what we've been working on, and it was quite possibly the most perfect audience to have ever existed.

The biggest thanks to @thestarkest and Brookes, our incredible guest singers, and to @luckywitch.righteousghost and @birds.on.the.ground for absolutely crushing it.
