We did it, we shot a short film!! Two exhilarating days of watching wildly competent people bring their humor and skill and excellent vibes to a bunch of very small stages. This was a wonderful experience and I had such a good time working with the best folks.

Today, in partnership between @lapubliclibrary and @libraryfoundla we are pleased to announce the new LAPL Creators in Residence! Experience designer and director Andy Crocker (@andy_crocker_briefcase), and graphic novelist, woodworker, and game designer Shing Yin Khor (@sawdustbear) have been selected from a pool of nearly 750 applicants.

The new Creators’ proposed projects are set to deliver dynamic opportunities for creative public engagement, and each creator will receive a $20,000 honorarium to facilitate their work. Over the coming months, Andy Crocker will create a playful series of site-responsive, interactive installations at branch libraries, inviting patron participation to co-create a constellation of stories that could only take place in the library. Shing Yin Khor, inspired by the LAPL’s Map and Photograph collections, envisions a series of large-scale, hand-painted maps documenting historical and personal narratives from L.A.’s queer and immigrant diaspora communities.
