EXTREME SAX!! Unleashing the wild tradition of Rockin' American Saxophone around the world! Booking and info at www.saxgordon.com

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Next week I’ll be able to ship cds/vinyl/posters to Europe directly from France (avoiding the ridiculous postage/customs costs of sending from the USA) but orders must be in by tomorrow or the next morning because I won’t be carrying these items with me unless they are for an order I received.
•
My EXTREME SAX! cd (and 4-song vinyl 45rpm EP) still isn’t available digitally or for streaming so the only way to hear my latest recording (and it’s a wild one!) is to have the cd or vinyl.
•
Also available is my “SHOWTIME” album (featuring guitarists Junior Watson and Matt “Guitar” Murphy), my “Rock & Roll Lives Here” album, and 8x10 limited-edition numbered letterpress posters from Union Press in Somerville, MA.
•
Order directly only from www.saxgordon.com/store

I usually try to give everyone a little more notice but this one is for the in-the-know.. It might not the easiest to get to, it’s in the Calvados department of the Normandy region of France, but it’s one of the most unique gigs I’ve been been doing semi-regularly for years and now Boogie Woogie au Haras is celebrating 30 years!
•
The concert Saturday night happens at beautiful Manoir & Haras de Sens, a horse farm just outside of the gorgeous village of Beuvron-en-Auge, where Sunday afternoon becomes a celebration of Boogie Woogie and dancing and a market of local products like the cidre and calvados the region is famous for.
•
The concert will feature amazing pianists like my old friends Lluís Coloma and Christoph Steinbach and other great entertainers like the fabulous singer Nicolle Rochelle. There should be a phone number or email on the info sheet I’m posting if you’re interested in attending or finding out more.
•
I’m gonna drop a pile of photos from over the years here, just to try and share a little bit of the atmosphere of the Manor and the village..

Here’s a little look at my set at the Redwood Coast Music Festival in Eureka, CA last weekend with guitarist/singer Nick Moss paying tribute to some of the greats of Chicago Blues saxophone. We played in the Eagle House, just one of the beautiful and historic venues that host festival performances from Traditional Jazz to Blues and Soul, Country and Western Swing to Gospel. The festival encourages and gives musicians the opportunity to present special collaborations like this one.
•
The song is “Speed Rack” from my “You Knock Me Out” album on Rounder’s Bullseye Blues Records from way back in 2000, inspired by saxist J.T. Brown’s recordings with guitarist Elmore James.
•
Nick Moss - guitar
Ethan Leinwand - piano
Rodrigo Mantovani - bass
Pierce Downer - drums
•
And thanks to Deke Dickerson @dekedickerson for the video. If you love rockin’ American music, roadside attractions, guitars, mid-century American style, and history off the beaten track you really should follow Deke on Facebook/Instagram, you’ll learn a lot and even feel like you’re along for the ride!

Another saxophonistic moment at the Redwood Coast Music Festival in Eureka, CA last weekend! We didn’t work together on the fest but it was fun to spending some time and listening to some music with saxmen Ron Dziubla and Jim Jedeikin.

The Eagle House is just one of the historic and classy venues in Eureka, CA that host Redwood Coast Music Festival performances, but maybe the only one where you could get (in Phatsy Kline’s Parlor Lounge) a really good French 75 and a “Holy Diver” - a raw oyster topped with lobster ceviche!
•
I sat in on a set there at the festival last weekend with Nick Moss and Sean “Mack” McDonald as well as doing a set with Nick paying tribute to some great Chicago Blues saxophonists.

It’s not often that I get to play with other sax players that are into the kind of old-fashioned swinging and rocking sax that I like so it was a treat to join Kamrin Ortiz and Galen Green with Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums featuring Miss Carmen Getit for a few shows at the great Redwood Coast Music Festival in Eureka, CA!
•
This is a really fantastic 4-day festival with a number of cool venues around beautiful and historic Eureka, California featuring musicians, singers, and bands from Blues to Western Swing, Cajun to traditional Jazz, old-style Country and more. Everything is set up for dancing and the weekend has become a favorite for dancers from all over. You really should mark your calendar for next year!
•
In the meantime you can catch Kamrin and Galen around San Francisco with Steve Lucky & the Rhumba Bums as well as with their own fun bands and other projects..

With the late great Eddie Shaw at the 2015 North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine. Rockland was a favorite stop for Eddie, he even immortalized it in a song but that’s another story..
•
I wanted to mention that the Nick Moss Trio and I will be paying tribute to Eddie and other great Chicago Blues sax players at the Rockin’ Chicago Sax show at the Redwood Coast Music Festival this Saturday October 3rd, 7:30 at the beautiful Eagle House in Eureka, CA - see ya there!
•
The festival weekend is packed with amazing bands, musicians, great shows and new collaborations, you can find out more at: https://rcmfest.org
