*** FIELD TRIP SEASON STARTS SOON!! ***

We are just two short weeks away from the start to the Spring and Summer Field Trip season!

If you have ever wanted to experience the Sax-Zim Bog during the non-winter season, attending one of our field trips is a great way to do so. Not only will you get to see everything the bog has to offer when the temperatures are above 0, but you get to do so while learning a little more about the biodiversity of the region.

Field trip attendance lists have been updated and there are few trips approaching their registration limits! Head over to our website to see the full list of trips and to register: https://saxzim.org/events/

If you have questions about field trips feel free to contact Head Naturalist Clinton at naturalist@saxzim.org.

End of season clean-up!
Head Naturalist Clinton, and Naturalist Heather-Marie, took down most feeders at the Welcome Center and all Friends' properties today. Although there are a number of redpolls still hanging around, it's gotten pretty quiet in the bog. Bears are waking up soon and we'd prefer not to have any more feeders ruined (we've left them out too late in the past. Oops). Please take care when walking on the boardwalks. Most are clear of ice (Warren Nelson was almost entirely snow free) but Winterberry and Fringed Gentian still had some ice and snow. It was almost 50 degrees today. Spring is on its way!

*** FIELD TRIP OPENINGS THIS WEEKEND! ***

Due to poor weather, we had to reschedule last week’s (March 5) Northern Owls Evening Program. We rescheduled the trip to be Saturday, March 12 (tomorrow!) and a few of the original registrants were unable to attend.

This means there are 2 spots open for the field trip tomorrow evening! The field trip will start at 4 pm and will continue into the evening, ending around 8 pm or so. If you are interested in participating tomorrow and learning a little more about owls in Northern Minnesota please email Head Naturalist Clinton at naturalist@saxzim.org to register ASAP!
