Hi all,
I just finished the draft of my very first historical fiction novel, and now I’m working on the logline. Since you all know a thing or two about storytelling, I could really use your expert eyes.
Check these out:
Logline 1:
“A kidnapped Muslim African scholar, forced into American slavery, turns his forbidden literacy into a master-class in deception. By disguising his sacred Quranic writings as Christian praise, he conducts a lifelong espionage, ultimately smuggling the tactical blueprints that would help dismantle the institution of slavery.”
Logline 2:
An enslaved Muslim scholar, subjected to a forced Christian baptism, uses his Sufi mysticism and secret Arabic mastery to wage a high-stakes espionage campaign, disguising sacred Quranic verses as Christian texts to build underground Islamic teaching networks in the South and smuggle covert intelligence North to dismantle slavery.
Which version do you like or prefer? Thank you everyone. What do you think? #sayedbadreya #omaribnsaid #muslimfilmmaker #muslimfilm by @sayedbadreya

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that I share the passing of my dear friend and mentor, Monty Roberts, on July 31, 2026.
For the world, he was the legendary “Man Who Listens to Horses.” For me, having had the immense privilege of working side by side with him for the past 25 years, he was a teacher, a guiding light, and a true father figure.
As his daughter Debbie so beautifully wrote:
“For more than eight decades, he dedicated his life to changing the way people understand and work with horses. His mission reached far beyond horsemanship. He believed that true leadership is built on communication, patience, empathy, and respect...”
Monty was a father and a teacher to everyone he met. He taught us that trust could accomplish what force never could—a lesson that transformed not just how we work with animals, but how we navigate life.
Though our hearts are broken, his legacy lives on in every person and animal touched by his wisdom. Together with Debbie, the family, and the entire team, we remain dedicated to carrying forward the philosophy that meant everything to him.
Rest in peace, my friend. Thank you for everything.
Please join us in honoring his extraordinary life and continuing his mission through the Monty Roberts International Learning Center in Solvang, California, or online.
