It’s fall outside, and the boys are hard at work.

Might be the best time of year to be working on a project like this, and the crew is making fast work of some complicated details in this high-efficiency home.

More to come. taken in Upper Rattlesnake by @scarianoconstruction

Quick BTS from a recent shoot.

A lot of architectural photography is just moving around the room until the camera sees what you’re seeing.
This one came together pretty damn well.

Stoked to share the full shoot soon.

This one had our hands all over it.

Still one of our favorite projects to date, mostly because the material choices left very little room for error.

Antique reclaimed timbers, hand-hewn posts, and pieces you can’t exactly run back to the lumberyard and replace. Our crew handled a lot of this work in-house, from framing through details like this railing.

Getting the reclaimed rail to sit tight, right, and plumb against those posts took plenty of measuring, fitting, and adjusting before the custom-profiled top cap could go on.

That kind of work is a big reason so many of our guys come from finish carpentry and woodworking backgrounds.

We’re heading back soon to shoot this place in the fall color, so this felt like a good one to bring back.

ROOF TRUSSES GOING UP

We had a tough time getting a crane up to the site in time for our truss delivery, but the boys put their noggins together and came up with a solution. We put our forklift to the test, and honestly, they made quick work of the truss layout on quite the heater of a fall day.

Big ups to the crew for sweating it out and getting things right on layout.

STILL DOING TAKEOFFS BY HAND.

After 30+ years in construction, Frank still likes to get into the details himself.

There are certain parts of a project he just loves being involved in, especially when it comes to the custom features, built-ins, cabinetry, and fine finish work. This is where his experience really shows, and where he still likes to sit down with the plans and work through takeoffs by hand.

It’s pretty cool to watch, honestly.

And if you’re wondering about all the frames behind him, those are 16 historic preservation awards collected over the years.

A lot of experience, a lot of attention to detail, and apparently still shorts weather in October.

THE CLIENT WANTED STAINED GLASS. WE MADE IT HAPPEN.

They wanted stained glass worked into the window, so we found the right partner to make it happen.

Sierra Pacific sent us the window without the center pane, which gave us the opening we needed to set the stained glass directly into the assembly instead of treating it like an add-on.

The result is pretty damn special — especially with the west-facing light coming through it later in the day.

The best exteriors feel simple. Getting them there takes some work.

This one comes down to using a pretty tight material palette in the right places. White siding keeps the larger stretches clean, the black panels add some weight, and the warmer accents around the entry and back of the house keep everything from feeling too cold.

There’s enough variation to give the exterior some depth, without making every elevation feel like it’s trying to do something different.

Swipe through for a closer look at how it all comes together.

OAK, SLATE, AND FUNCTION.

Quarter-sawn white oak brings warmth to this kitchen, while the slate-painted cabinetry adds contrast and gives the room a little more depth.

The appliance wall does a lot of the heavy lifting, with Sub-Zero and Wolf pieces integrated cleanly into the cabinetry. Grain-matched panels keep the millwork feeling precise, while hidden storage gives the microwave, blender, toaster, snacks, and everyday kitchenware a place to disappear when they’re not in use.

Clean lines, thoughtful storage, and plenty happening behind the doors.

Elk season felt like a good excuse.

Hard to miss the bull holding court over this fireplace, finished in American Clay and surrounded by all the warm wood and stone that make this home feel very Montana.

A pretty fitting one to bring back while archery season is still underway.

Good luck to everyone out there chasing tags this fall.

Fall on the calendar. Summer on the jobsite, and our marketing guy was not prepared.

Luckily, the lil’ cooler’s staying stocked with the salty goods.

Big thanks to the homies @drinklmnt for hooking the crew up with the finest hydration in the game. More salt, not less.

We’d truss these guys with our lives.

Sorry. Trust. But with truss delivery coming up, both feel pretty accurate.

Before anything gets lifted into place, there’s a lot of prep happening below. Our crew is reviewing the plans, marking truss locations, confirming bearing points and openings, and making sure the wall layout is exactly where it needs to be before the next big stack of lumber shows up.

It’s not the flashiest part of framing, but getting this right makes the install smoother, keeps everything lined up, and gets us one big step closer to closing in the envelope.

Balanced by light.

After dark, the hidden LED above the walnut slat wall gives this Zen garden a warm glow and brings a little more focus to the client’s heirloom stone temple.

During the day, natural light takes over, catching the walnut, throwing shadows through the slats, and giving the same corner a completely different feel.
