There’s a little town in Japan called Narai, on the Nakasendo Trail between Kyoto and Tokyo. It’s full of old, beautifully preserved buildings, and at one end sits an enormous gnarled pine tree. I took some pictures of it when I visited two years ago, not knowing the significance it would later have.

When I was thinking of album names, Pine hit me almost immediately, and with it came the memory of this tree. There are a lot of dual meanings in the track names, whilst some are more literal, focused on specific memories.

This is Sent.

There’s also a full video of Pine up on YouTube - link in my bio.

Pine is out in full today!

This is my most field recording-driven album to date. It contains little fragments of memories, snippets of life that, looking back, are no longer something everyday but somehow end up imbued with nostalgia, a warm haze of memory upon the mundane.

There’s a mixture of sadness and joy when I listen back to these snippets, knowing that life has changed, but that it was always fated to do so, and that the memories I’m left with are the gift of what’s happened.

Wind chimes on the breeze, the slow melody of an old music box running low on batteries with family talking in the background, a storm that rolled through as I was writing one evening. I’m not sure what your versions of these snippets are, but I know that we’ve all got them in some form.

I hope this album helps evoke that feeling for you, that it somehow manages to capture that tension of the bittersweet, the feeling of trying not to forget.

Many many thanks to Brady @weallspeakinpoems for so much support with this release, and to Taylor @12kmastering for the spectacular shaping of sound. I’m so excited that this is out in the world both physically and digitally. Find it wherever you find your music. Happy listening 🤍

How incredible does this vinyl look! I’m so happy with how this album has translated to the physical world - big thanks to @alaskantapes / @weallspeakinpoems for bringing it to life, and Taylor Deupree @12kmastering for helping it sound so good 🤍

This track is called Fir, it’s up on KEXP’s Pacific Notions as a sneak peek (link in my story)

And if you’d like a record, the pre-order link is in my bio 🙂

My second single from Pine is out today on @weallspeakinpoems - it’s called Home

You can also pre-order the vinyl for the full album to be released in September! There’s a link in my bio

Home is the final track on the album, and was the first track that I created while recording it. In fact, it was the first track that I had created in months after my beloved greyhound, Macc, passed away last year

This track, and indeed this full album, is something of a tribute to him - an introspection into trying to grasp onto memories that are fading too fast, and to bask in the warm glow of nostalgia

Thanks to everyone who’s left such wonderful comments so far - I really appreciate all of the kind words 🤍

New music!

Today marks the release of the first single from my upcoming album Pine, to be released in September on @weallspeakinpoems

This is a deeply personal album, probably the closest to my heart of anything I’ve put together so far. I’ll share more of the story behind it as we get closer to the release date, but this eponymous track is the starting point, capturing moments of joy in memory, looking back with fondness.

I hope you like it.

Also:
It’s coming out on vinyl.

I’m excited to share that @throughaiko and my full EP, Pour un Instant, is out now on @norayrecords!

The second track is a longer-form deconstruction of a piano piece, finding spaces between notes and rippling out into repetitions.

The two tracks contain one piano piece by me, and one by Aiko - each supplemented by drones, textures and synthesis by the other. Bonus points if you can figure out whose is whose!

Link in bio to find it on Bandcamp, or any other streaming services. Thanks to Ian Hawgood for mastering, and thanks to you for listening 🤍

Le Voile D’automne (Corduroy), the first track of my collaborative EP with @throughaiko, is out now on @norayrecords!

Released in full next week, these tracks are two small suspended scenes in the moments just before morning arrives. Fragile, unfinished, and momentary - two pieces holding onto a passing atmosphere before it disappears again with daylight…

Link in bio to pre-order. Thanks to Ian Hawgood for mastering
