@sccatamale in Ghana has opened Notes on Friendship II: Parallel Play, bringing together 25 artists from Kenya and Ghana for an exhibition exploring shared ideas across different places and generations.
Curated by @DonHanda and @SelomKudjie, the exhibition builds on the 2025 Breaking Bread collaboration between SCCA Tamale and @ncai254 . The exhibition will run until February 28, 2027.

The frozen water melts and the dye follows the little rivers through the fabric. Kids cut plants and place them in cups of cut bottles and well water. What grows when conditions are right?

Notes on Friendship: Parallel Play

Opening
Friday, 11 September 2026, 5:00pm at SCCA Tamale

SCCA Tamale welcomes Parallel Play, the 2nd chapter of the exhibition Notes on Friendship. Born out of the collaborative spirit of two independent not for profit art institutions, Parallel Play builds upon the thoughts experiments of Breaking Bread held at Nairobi Contemporary Art Institute (NCAI) in 2025. The exhibition brings together artists across Kenya and Ghana working independently, sometimes decades apart, landing on the same concerns without necessarily being in direct dialogue. It is crafted into three interlinked strands: about us, traces of sensations, and the world beyond sight of objects.

“ZADO KELI: Eclipse of a Continent” by highly acclaimed artist Edwin Bodjawah at Savannah Center for Contemporary Art in Tamale, North of Ghana @sccatamale, curated by Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh @iubizzle is a brilliant exhibition for several reasons.

🪩 Edwin Bodjawah’s expanded practice presents thousands and thousands of masks in aluminum that invoke imaginary narratives crossing from indigenous knowledge to colonialism to Nkumah’s independence of Ghana to today’s saddening abandonment of the state from society. A conceptual practice expanding the means of art and demonstrating the capacity of contemporary independent thinking to intervene through art.

🪩 Another reason why to see the work of Edwin Bodjawah is the deeply moving intergenerational conversation unfolding between the artist who is cofounder, with kąrî’kạchä seid’ōu of the incredible @blaxtarlines @knust.gh, and teacher of @iubizzle @ibrahimmahama3 @k_mls_k @godelivekasangati.

LAUNCHING ENTANGLED INTERNATIONALISMS

An invitation to readers, writers, researchers, archivists, architects, artists, students, and storytellers engaged with the histories of Ghana’s internationalisms crossing the East of Europe during the global Cold War: You are invited to join the Ghana launch of two publications in the series Entangled Internationalisms, published by the State Art Collections Dresden in Germany and HEAD Genève in Switzerland with Spector Books.

How to compose, from fragments, an imagined conversation? This event announces the release of Entangled Internationalisms: a publication series with academic, archival as well as artistic contributions of the research project Decolonizing Socialism: Entangled Internationalism(2019–2024), which investigates the alliances between Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe that came together in and via the German Democratic Republic (GDR) during the global Cold War. The launch focuses on two volumes. Reflexive Tema and Global Elsewheres …, edited by Kwasi Ohene-Ayeh, departs from the Tema Printing Press of Ghana’s First Republic (1960–1966), constructed by East-German architects, montaging reports, memos, letters, maps, newspaper clippings, and photographs — including formerly classified materials — to piece together the Press’s incomplete story within Kwame Nkrumah’s vision of an industrialized republic. The Missed Seminar, edited by Avery F. Gordon and Doreen Mende, mobilizes a geopolitics of friendship between the African-American anthropologist, Black feminist, and pan-African photographer Eslanda Goode Robeson with the Jewish philosopher Franz Loeser in the GDR: a study of joint struggles against fascism, racism, and anti-Semitism. Together, the editions propose a curatorial and research apparatus of worldmaking after internationalism, staged on paper in words, images, and thoughts between pages. by @sccatamale
