🎥 Michael Jackson – Thriller (1983) One of the most iconic dance sequences in music video history was filmed right here on Union Pacific Avenue near the intersection of South Calzona Street in Boyle Heights. This is where Michael Jackson and the zombies performed the unforgettable “Thriller” dance that has been recreated around the world for more than 40 years. What’s amazing is how much of the location still matches today. The large white warehouse visible in the background is the same building that was recently at the center of the massive Boyle Heights warehouse fire. I filmed this only a few days after firefighters finally extinguished the blaze following days of battling the flames. It definitely gives this already eerie filming location an even more haunting feel. 📍Filming Location: Union Pacific Avenue near the intersection of South Calzona Street, Boyle Heights, Los Angeles, CA.#moviescene #music #musicvideo #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥 Step Brothers (2008)Released 18 years ago today! After their hilariously disastrous job interviews, Brennan Huff (Will Ferrell) and Dale Doback (John C. Reilly) walk through South Pasadena, trying to figure out their next move. Moments later, they’re confronted by a group of neighborhood kids who make things even worse in one of the film’s funniest scenes. This scene was filmed near the Meridian Iron Works Museum in South Pasadena. Swipe to the second photo for a wider view of the location. If you look all the way to the right, you’ll even spot the famous house from Halloween (1978) in the distance—a fun bonus for movie fans. And if you’re wondering about the portable restroom visible in the background today, it’s a movable Metro restroom trailer that wasn’t there when the movie was filmed.📍Meridian Iron Works Museum913 Meridian Ave. South Pasadena, CA#moviescene #Movies #ThenAndNow #film #trending by @scene_again

🎥 Top Gun (1986)One of the most recognizable filming locations from Top Gun is Charlie’s house, where Charlie (Kelly McGillis) lived in the film. Originally built in 1888 as the Graves House, the Victorian cottage became a Hollywood icon after appearing in the 1986 classic. To preserve this historic landmark during redevelopment, the house was carefully relocated in 2020 to its new home near the Oceanside Pier. It later reopened as High-Pie before closing earlier this year. Today, it officially begins its next chapter as An’s Gate D5, an aviation-themed gelato shop.📍Address: 250 N Pacific St, Oceanside, CA#ThenAndNow #Movies #80s #moviescene #trending by @scene_again

🎥 Back to the Future (1985)One of the most unforgettable moments in movie history! As lightning strikes the Hill Valley clock tower, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) successfully sends Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) racing back to 1985 in the DeLorean at exactly 88 mph. This iconic scene was filmed on Courthouse Square at the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot. My “now” photo was taken during Universal Fan Fest, giving fans the rare opportunity to stand where one of cinema’s greatest finales was filmed.A fun filming location fact: the theater visible at the end of the street in the movie was demolished several years ago and replaced with a soundstage. Today, a large painted mural hangs in its place to recreate the look of the original building seen in the film.📍Universal Studios Hollywood100 Universal City Plaza Universal City, CA#trending #80s #Movies #ThenAndNow #moviescene by @scene_again

🎥 La Bamba (1987) – 39 Years Ago TodayReleased 39 years ago today, La Bamba tells the inspiring and heartbreaking story of Ritchie Valens, played by Lou Diamond Phillips. In this scene, after the success of “Donna” and “La Bamba,” Ritchie surprises his family with a brand-new home. The house featured as the family’s new home is 727 Fine St. in Fillmore, California, while the house directly across the street (726 Fine St.) is prominently seen in the background. Interestingly, Ritchie’s small childhood home from the movie is just around the corner.A fun bit of movie trivia: the guitar Ritchie receives in the film comes from Cassell’s Music in San Fernando, California—the same music store that later appeared in Wayne’s World. These are the filming locations used for the movie. The real Valens family homes were in Pacoima, California.📍Surprise new home: 727 Fine St., Fillmore, CA📍House in background: 726 Fine St., Fillmore, CAHappy 39th anniversary to La Bamba! #moviescene #ThenAndNow #Movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥 Valley Girl (1983)After spending the entire night together, Randy (Nicolas Cage) brings Julie Richman (Deborah Foreman) home just as the sun is coming up. It’s a quiet moment that perfectly captures the growing connection between the two before reality sets back in.This scene was filmed in front of Julie’s home at 3907 Dixie Canyon Ave., Sherman Oaks, California. The original house seen in Valley Girl is no longer standing. It was severely damaged after a large tree fell onto the property, and the home was eventually demolished and replaced with a newly built residence. 📍3907 Dixie Canyon Ave. Sherman Oaks, CA#moviescene #ThenAndNow #Movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥. Poetic Justice (1993) - 33 years old today!! Today marks the anniversary of the release of Poetic Justice, directed by John Singleton. In this scene, Justice (Janet Jackson), Lucky (Tupac Shakur), Iesha (Regina King), Chicago (Joe Torry) make an unexpected stop at a family reunion during their road trip from South Central Los Angeles to Oakland. After meeting Cousin Pete, they’re invited to grab some lunch and join the festivities.Although the movie makes it seem like this reunion is just off Interstate 5 somewhere on the drive to Oakland, it was actually filmed at Mineral Wells Picnic Area in Griffith Park in Los Angeles. While the park has changed over the years—with some trees removed, others planted, and a few buildings showing their age—the location is still instantly recognizable and remains a great place to compare with the film over 30 years later.📍Mineral Wells Picnic AreaMineral Wells RdLos Angeles, CA#moviescene #ThenAndNow #Movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥. Zapped! (1982) — 44 Years LaterToday marks the 44th anniversary of the release of Zapped! 🎉This scene takes place inside the Magic Land arcade, where Barney Springboro (Scott Baio) and Bernadette (Felice Schachter) walk through as Peyton Nichols (Willie Aames) and Robert (Eddie Deezen) compete to outdo each other in an effort to impress Jane Mitchell (Heather Thomas). One of the coolest things about this filming location is how little it has changed. The arcade at Six Flags Magic Mountain still has much of the same look it had when the movie was filmed over four decades ago, making it a fun spot to revisit and compare with the film.📍26101 Magic Mountain PkwyValencia, CA#moviescene #ThenAndNow #Movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥 The Karate Kid (1984)One of the most memorable scenes in The Karate Kid takes place inside the Cobra Kai dojo, when Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita) arrives with Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) to confront John Kreese (Martin Kove). Mr. Miyagi demands that the Cobra Kai students leave Daniel alone until the All Valley Karate Tournament, leading to one of the film’s most memorable moments: “Leave boy alone. Enough.”This iconic dojo was a real martial arts school for decades. After it closed, the building became House of Intuition, a metaphysical shop known for crystals, candles, tarot cards, books, incense, and herbal remedies. That business has since closed as well, and today the space is vacant and available for lease.📍5223 Lankershim Blvd.North Hollywood, CA#moviescene #ThenAndNow #movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥 Doc Hollywood (1991)One of the memorable moments at the end of Doc Hollywood is when Dr. Ben Stone (Michael J. Fox) realizes he wants to return to Grady. After getting a message that someone from Grady is looking for him, he rushes out of the doctor’s office, runs toward the restaurant, and spots his red convertible along the way. He then reunites with Hank Gordon (Woody Harrelson) and Nancy Lee Nicholson (Julie Warner), who have come to bring him back to Grady.Although the fictional town of Grady is set in South Carolina, nearly all of the movie’s exterior scenes were actually filmed in Micanopy, Florida. The interiors—and this brief but memorable ending scene—were filmed right here in Los Angeles, just off Rodeo Drive on Dayton Way.📍9489 Dayton Way, Beverly Hills, CA#moviescene #ThenAndNow #movies #80s #trending by @scene_again

🎥 WarGames (1983)Although WarGames is set in the Seattle area, many of its most memorable scenes were actually filmed right here in Los Angeles. In this scene, Jennifer (Ally Sheedy) gives David Lightman (Matthew Broderick) a ride home on her motorbike after school. As they walk to the front door, they’re greeted by David’s dog, Beau. This Then & Now features David’s house at 333 S. Arden Blvd. in the Hancock Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. While the movie makes it look like a quiet Pacific Northwest neighborhood, this iconic home has been sitting in the heart of L.A. all along. (Film Locations Guide)Did you know so much of WarGames was filmed in Southern California while convincing audiences it was Seattle? #moviescene #ThenAndNow #movies #80s #trending by @scene_again
