Incredible 60-hour journey door to door for this incredible Latin extravaganza at Peloton Studios in New York! I was honored with the invite and hit the lottery with my class lineup! Rad (double header!), Mariana, Jenn, and Camila! From Maná to Soda Estéreo to Billy Joel, and Los Prisioneros in the mix too, the music was on fire! I danced, I screamed, I sobbed, letting out my emotional trauma and taking in all the good energy of that magical space and all the seriously badass people who fill it. Definitely the highlight of our spring break, experiencing the magic of this dream sanctuary for so many deserving and beautiful animals, rescued and rehabbed. We were connected to Iliana and @2therescueanimalsanctuary when a chicken took shelter from the rain in our (accidentally left open) garage a few months ago. So very happy to report that Chickalina is living her very best life surrounded by loved animals like her and also very different from her, and enjoying her nightly gourmet salads. It’s time we all take a stand against the horrific treatment of animals and give them a chance to live free and full lives. There is absolutely nothing like reconnecting with a friend you traveled the world with back when you were 21! I met Tracey on a plane to Madrid in 1991. We spent the next 11 months pretty much connected at the hip (and never too far from Rialto!) in Granada studying at the University (among other mischievous activities!), making trips together to the Swiss Alps, Portugal, France, Italy, Greece, and let’s not forget New Year’s Eve in the Puerta del Sol ringing in 1992! Hands down, the best year of my life. I mean, free Sundays at the Alhambra and free tapas with every caña too! Seeing her was like a huge breath of fresh air and a much needed reminder that I once was one of the bravest and most independent people I knew. And she surprised my girls with the most amazing treats! She will forever and always be one of my favorite people. I had the role of both mother and father to my daughter since the day she was born, and now she acts as if I don’t exist at all. So today I acknowledge myself and all the single mothers out there doing their absolute best to hold down the fort, no matter how hard the winds blow. I always know where to find my brother, Freddie, who loved and protected me so. He’s in me; I see him every time I smile. He’s around me; I always call out his name when a butterfly flutters by. He’s with me; I wear this necklace to keep his energy alive with color. I see his bright eyes in my nieces and nephew. I hear his voice in my father’s. Still, I miss him and long to live out my dream of growing old together and getting into more mischief in one way or another. I feel the depth of my parents’ pain, but never have the right words to express it.
