For folks in the DC area, please join me on September 30th as I lead off the sound event, Contour and Resonance, created by INTERFERENCE:Music Collective - William Brent, computer musician
Noah Getz, saxophone and Nancy Jo Snider, ‘cello - at the Katzen Museum at American University.
This 45-minute sound event is framed by Alvin Lucier's iconic work, I am Sitting in a Room. By generating acoustic resonance via recursive recording and playback, the sonic features inherent to the architecture of the American University Museum space will be revealed and developed into an immersive, ambient sound environment. As this process unfolds, a program of experimental works by post-Cagean composers James Tenney (selections from Postal Pieces), Pauline Oliveros (New Sound Meditation), and Alvin Lucier (Music for Cello and Amplified Vases) will be performed, along with additional improvised material.
I will join Nancy Jo Snider (’cello), Noah Getz (saxophone), and William Brent (computer musician) for a brief Q&A following the program.
Contour and Resonance is supported as part of the creative process for my new "in-process" film project, a collaboration with Adam Larsen.
Registration is strongly encouraged as space is limited.

The making of art is built over time and with the human touch. For me, this includes time spent reading, researching, sculpting ideas, concepts and themes while mirroring all in the human body through movement and the senses. Alongside the creative work, the logistics take shape via budgets, fundraising, numerous production meetings, contracts and travel plans, all in support of the art that is mine to create.
Over the last 10 days, 7 artists from 5 countries - Juana Farfan, Barbora Latalova, Amador Artiga, Adam Larsen, Katarzyna Pastuszak, Adler Dills, Christian Meyer - gave life to the first images for this new film project. I travel home today filled with gratitude for the generosity of these artists and many others (behind the scenes) that contributed to this “beginning”. taken in Washington D. C. by @schroeder.sue

You’re invited to Versaille Jones’s LIFT Artist Residency with Core Dance! 🌱

Join us in our downstairs studio to experience the creative process on Saturday, September 26, from 6:30- 8 PM.

Register to join us at the Salon at the link in our bio 🔗

Versaille says, “My work grounds itself in the investigative process of deconstructing one’s own perception of memory. Exploring ways in which subjective timelines can birth isolated dimensions of truth.

I take interest in the multiplicitous nature of how each life is experienced and how messily they entangle themselves. In these crossing dimensions, the absurd and macabre are plucked out and placed under trials of reconfiguration until they morph into exaggerated versions of their former selves.”

On Dynamic Balance, Lucidity & Answering The Call: A Reflection from Sue Schroeder, Artistic Director, Part 4

“Meanwhile the world goes on. Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain are moving across the landscapes, over the prairies and the deep trees, the mountains and the rivers. Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air, are heading home again. Whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting – over and over announcing your place in the family of things.” – Mary Oliver, Wild Geese

Core Dance looks to amplify the context for art-making that is relevant to everyone, a future that is intrinsically valuable & sacred and which connects us to each other, our utter humanness and the power of the collective imagination and therefore, collective action.
