The Science Summit during UNGA80 is a hybrid event offering a dynamic blend of online and in-person sessions in the vibrant setting of New York City.
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
During the 2026 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) a few weeks ago, I moderated two private sessions & featured on one panel, all on significant and timely, global public health opportunities and challenges. Deep appreciation to @goalshouse , @gatesfoundation , @novartis , and @sciencesummit for your thoughtful invitations to generate much needed conversations. Each was such a rich space to share with stakeholders who are truly driving and sustaining public health impact. I salute each of you.

Here are my UNGA highlights on Women’s Health—namely Maternal Health— on AI in Healthcare, and on Community Health.

After two days of conversations, ideas and insights, the Science Summit Nairobi 2026 came to an end yesterday.

Landscape Alliance joined discussions on circular bioeconomy delivery in Kenya, agroforestry for climate, biodiversity, food and energy, and the role of space technologies in development.

The discussions highlighted the need to connect science and evidence with action, and to use both to guide decisions that work for people, landscapes and economies.

Huge thanks to everyone who joined the conversations, shared their knowledge and helped make the two days meaningful.

Yesterday was a day of meaningful conversations, learning and new perspectives at the Science Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The first session on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) offered an opportunity to reflect on the importance of collective action, innovation and inclusive approaches in advancing sustainable and equitable development.

The mental health session later in the day was equally thought-provoking. We explored the realities surrounding mental wellbeing, including access to support, stigma and the need for more inclusive approaches to mental healthcare. I was particularly interested in the conversation around Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the mental health sector from its potential to improve access to information and support to the important questions around ethics, privacy, human connection. Which were brought out clearly by Professor Payal Arora.

I learnt that progress should not only be measured by the technologies we develop, but also by how effectively those innovations improve people's lives. It was a grateful for the opportunity to listen, engage, ask questions and learn from diverse perspectives.

Food for thought..we often say there should be no distinction between mental and physical health, but in reality there is stigma, unequal access and differences in resources. What is the biggest barrier preventing us from treating mental health as an essential part of healthcare rather than an afterthought?

A special thank you to the panelists who made the mental health conversation so insightful and engaging, led by Katherine Marshall Woods, Psy.D. alongside Kauna Malgwi from Nigeria, Payal Arora who joined virtually, and Arthur Lima from Brazil.

I truly appreciated the diverse perspectives they brought to the conversation and the opportunity to learn from experiences and insights spanning different parts of the world. The discussion around mental health, technology and the potential role of AI in expanding access to support was particularly my interest.
Thank you for creating space for such an important conversation. 🌍

🔭 It’s a wrap!

Our #virtualsession at the @sciencesummit last Saturday, 19th September, was a true success.

A huge thank you to everyone who showed up, including our excellent panelists, our youth partners, and the lovely participants joining from all around the world! 🌎

The session focused on the topic: How do we actually get #science to #policymakers? We heard from practitioners, youth, researchers, and communicators. It was an engaging session featuring intergenerational exchange, exploring not just how to communicate, but the structures needed to realize it, identifying key actors and stakeholders in the space, and discussing how to promote collaboration among all parties.

We hope you had fun and learned a lot that you can adopt or adapt in your own respective careers, fields of work, and contexts.

💡Here is to more meaningful conversations and collective change beyond borders. This is just the beginning.

🗓: Sabtu, 19 September 2026
🕚: 22:00 WIB (11:00 AM NYC Time)

Science and research can sometimes feel distant or disconnected, like they mostly exist on paper. So, do we need more than scientists and researchers in the room to turn knowledge into action?

To address this, Science Summit is hosting a forum session to explore who needs to be involved, what roles we can play, and how we can effectively move information to the public and into decision-making rooms.

This forum session brings together youth leaders from across Southeast Asia, including representatives from Indonesia! The speakers come from diverse paths, but they share a common mission.

Don't miss out on this inspiring discussion and the chance to learn directly from their action!

„𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲.”

That is the whole strategy most researchers are handed for turning their work into something that changes a decision. Publish it well, and trust that the right person finds it.

Policymakers work on timelines and in formats that academic output was never made for, and there is no one to fill this gap.

𝗢𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟵, 𝟭𝟭 𝗮𝗺 𝗡𝗬𝗖 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲, we are hosting a session at the Science Summit with four experts:

→ Dr Jeevan Perera, Senior Engineer and Manager at NASA’s Johnson Space Center
→ Prof Rana Dajani, molecular biologist and biotechnology professor at Hashemite University
→ Dr Tapan Nayak, Senior Scientist and Outreach Coordinator at CERN’s ALICE Collaboration
→ Ruchira Sawant, co-founder of RayNova, who has worked with more than 500 scientists on getting research out of academic spaces

You will be able to interact with the experts and help us produce a report based on the session. See you there!

Being named "Thought Leader of the Year" in Sustainable Lifestyle by @illuminem_earth caught me by surprise.

“Lifestyle” is where I first learned that culture moves markets.

In my early career as a model and image-maker, and later as a cultural strategist, I learned how powerfully images shape desire, value, and behavior.

Today, my work asks a deeper question:

What kinds of vision and energy infrastructure make life and prosperity possible?

Sustainability is not just an aspiration or a lifestyle perk.

It is survival infrastructure.

I’m deeply honored to be recognized alongside extraordinary leaders advancing climate action, culture, finance, policy, creativity, and regeneration.

How we live is itself a climate story.

But the way we live is shaped long before it reaches the individual.

It is shaped by the energy infrastructure powering AI and industry.
By the systems that make some choices easy and others impossible.
By the stories that define success and progress.
By the ancestral knowledge that honors nature and reciprocity.
By the economic systems that decide what is valued and what is destroyed.
And by our collective choices of which products, policies, and futures we support.

That is the work I feel called to.

Through film, green energy infrastructure, Indigenous-led systems transformation, and global convening, including the @sciencesummit at the United Nations General Assembly, I see culture not as downstream from climate action, but as one of its enabling systems.

Culture is climate infrastructure.

It shapes what people desire, what institutions fund, what leaders prioritize, what companies build, and what futures societies can imagine.

Thank you to illuminem and its community for this recognition. Congratulations to all the remarkable leaders recognized. Much gratitude to our teams at @openorigin.industries, @shaktiregeneration, and Double Exposure Studios.

May we keep expanding sustainability beyond sacrifice, toward prosperity, reciprocity, and regeneration.
