Tom Penny, Radlands 1995, by @brycekanights Tom’s winning run from that year was in @411videomagazine issue 13 (and Europe 1995) and it’s in my story.

There’s also a link to a zine I did about 411VM, with interviews with Chris Ortiz, Josh Friedberg, Steve Douglas and Andy Howell talking about starting up the video magazine that helped advance skateboarding in ways it had never seen before.

The zine came with the 411VM boards that we did at @sidewalkdistribution, so if you didn’t get one of those, you can still see the zine.

ELSEWHERE! back for a cracking feature in issue one

On one level, Neil Macdonald’s (@scienceversuslife) book is an oral and visual history of British skateboard culture from 1987 to 2002. But that is to put it simply: this book plunges head-first into the dizzying throng of voices, texture and colour that pulsate from this ecosystem shaped by passion, love, hate, youth, folly, success, ambition, grit, mundanity and violence.

Neil emerged from the very scene he documents. A participant and an observer, he skated, hosted club nights, DJ’d and everything in between. He is now the biggest skate archivist in the UK, and Elsewhere is the culmination of that work.

Words: @jacobelliottharris
Photography: @wigworland, @timlb, @jamesahudson and @mrianlawton

For this special episode, Neil has curated a selection of music drawn from the soundtracks of the UK skate videos - and the people in the scene - chronicled in ELSEWHERE.

Dee Collins in the ELSEWHERE x @nbnumeric 480. Limited to 100 pairs, available via the link in my bio.

It was amazing to work with NB# to make this shoe to go along with the book. The leather and suede are black and white like the cover of the book and the UK weather, it’s got 3M panels for riding bikes in the dark, yellow and blue accents for Blueprint and it’s got a gum sole, obviously. They come with white, blue and yellow lace options. Shoes are shipped from @welcomeskatestore.

Massive thanks to @relishit, @bainzito, @epmdave, @g_woodward and all at NB# for everything. 📹 @joeskillzz

Carl Shipman, Sheffield ‘97, shot by @wigworland for @transworldskate. Carl was on DC at the time but he didn’t like the shoes so he’d skate in various other shoes unless he had to shoot an ad.

Tonight, @sluggerskatestore and @nbnumeric are bringing a show of classic Sheffield photos from through the years to the London Road banks, which are also now skateable again for the first time in years, for one night only. When @fuckskateboards had the idea for this I thought it might be a bit hard to pull off, but nope. Slugger post in my story for the proof.

Jimmy Boyes, Newcastle 1991, by @jamesahudson. There’s so much to this photo and it was barely seen because it was Skate Action.
