Our Conservation Team, Around the World
🌍

Last week, SCIF Director of Conservation Dr. Chris Comer represented SCIF at the European Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FACE) General Assembly in Brussels, sharing insights with members about SCIF’s science-based conservation work around the world.

The 2026 General Assembly brought together delegates from 37 national member associations representing more than 7 million European hunter-conservationists.

Through collaboration and knowledge-sharing, we continue to strengthen the global conservation community and highlight the important role hunters play in wildlife conservation.

💧 In New Mexico’s dry landscape, water can be a lifeline for wildlife.

SCI Foundation helped support the replacement of a nonfunctional wildlife water guzzler on BLM public land near Tularosa, New Mexico. Completed in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), with support from the SCI New Mexico and @sci_west_texas Chapters, this project restored an important water source for wildlife in this rugged landscape.

Following installation, wildlife including elk, black bear, mountain lion and more were documented using the restored site.

Watch The Lifeline to see conservation in action and how partnerships are helping make a difference for wildlife and wild places.

🐆 A major milestone for leopard conservation!

SCI Foundation has completed the first national-scale assessment of leopard density and distribution across Botswana, establishing a critical new scientific baseline for long-term conservation and management.

Using extensive field data, SCIF researchers developed national maps of predicted leopard abundance and distribution, estimating approximately 6,262 leopards across Botswana.

This research will help inform adaptive management, sustainable quota-setting, long-term monitoring, and a better understanding of important leopard strongholds and movement corridors.

Better science leads to better wildlife management and a stronger future for leopards. 🐆🌍 To view the full report, visit link in bio.

At the end of the FACE General Assembly in Brussels, Juan Magaz, EU Liaison and Treasurer of the European Committee of Safari Club International (SCI), spoke with Laurens Hoedemaker, President of FACE, and Chris Comer, Director of Conservation at Safari Club International Foundation (SCIF), to hear their main takeaways from the meeting.

International collaboration, joining forces among organisations, and a shared vision for conservation and hunting were among the key themes of the Assembly.
