100 peaks. Two seasons. One book. Cascade High is now available to everyone.

This spring, 700+ Kickstarter backers brought this book to life. Thank you! Today it opens to everyone.

Over two seasons, I climbed and documented Washington’s 100 highest peaks with 38 partners, starting with sunrise on the crater rim of Loowit (Mount St. Helens) and ending on the summit of Forbidden Peak. 296 pages, 200+ photographs, custom maps, and essays on the range, its history, and what it taught me/

For every copy ordered by Friday Nov 6, I’ll donate $5 to @wanatlparkfund, giving back to the parks and public lands that changed my life. (Why November 6? It’s Parkfest, their annual fundraiser. Will I see you there?)

One print run. No reprint planned. Orders ship in November.

Comment LINK and I’ll send it your way. Or find it in my bio.

This past climbing season my friend and Muckleshoot tribal member @rachel79rachel led a group of Indigenous teens and young adults on a climb to Camp Muir on Tahoma (Rainier). The climbers, ranging in age from 16 to 25 and representing the Muckleshoot, Hunkpapa Lakota, Paiute and Blackfeet nations, traveled through dense fog, stunning beauty, and tent-snapping winds. It was a privilege to witness and document their climb with still imagery.

Celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day by watching the documentary short “More Than the Summit: An Indigenous Journey up Tahoma,” produced by @jessiesearsopb of Oregon Public Broadcasting. 🔗: https://youtu.be/4QBGyfQEVk4?si=fA6jLmjn5Vvf1h0t

Congrats Rachel and team, and thank you for inspiring, teaching, and leading others into the mountains. Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day, today and every day. taken in Native Land by @scott_kranz

42 today 🤙 I’ve never been one to make much noise about my birthday, but this one feels worth mentioning. Not so much for me, but for a few small asks if you’re willing to consider:

🗳️ Register to vote (or make sure you’re registered). It takes a few minutes.

🌲 Speak up for the Roadless Rule. The public comment period closes tonight (!) and this longstanding rule protects some of the most amazing public lands we have, including plenty of the country I’m lucky enough to explore and photograph. Link in bio.

💛 Be kind. It’s free.

Thanks for being part of this wild journey. Remember that we’re all doing our best, so give everyone some grace. Yourself included. taken in Pacific Northwest by @scott_kranz

Some say fall starts on September 1st. Others wait for tomorrow’s autumn equinox. Either way, the fall season - my favorite season to experience and photograph - is arriving. I love this early stage of fall in the Washington subalpine, when the first reds mix in with the yellows and there’s still a little green holding on. Can’t wait for the next few weeks here in the home state. Where are you catching fall this year?

Just 10 glimpses of the millions of acres at risk.

These are some of WA’s iconic hiking trails, pristine backcountry zones, old-growth forests, freshwater sources, vital wildlife habitats. Ancestral lands of Indigenous peoples. All protected by the decades-old Roadless Rule ... until they’re not.

Despite overwhelming public support, the Roadless Rule is on the chopping block. Why? So people in power can build roads to log, mine, and extract, all to make billionaires richer.

You have a choice: raise your voice to protect these lands, or stay silent and lose them for all future generations.

I hope enough of us stand up and use our voice. Speak up today and share your personalized public comment explaining why the Roadless Rule must stay. Link in bio.

One fine morning of birding and bugging in the Green Mountains of Vermont, for my fifth Sony Kando. First time in Appalachia, first time testing the new 100-400mm F4.5 GM, first time using insect subject recognition. This Kando had it all: forest hikes, gondola rides, a golden retriever farm, a traveling circus, ziplining, waterfall chasing, birding, and more. But the real highlight was the people. Trading stories, projects, and creative rabbit holes with the rest of the Sony family.

Huge thanks to @sonyalpha for putting together the best photo experience of the year. Already counting down to the next one. #sonykandotrip

Fun fact: butterflies always make me think of @wildgina’s stunning work, so getting to shoot these side by side with her, among other new and old friends, was a full circle moment. :) taken in Vermont by @scott_kranz

45 million acres of backcountry forests are at stake. Roadless areas that some wish to open to development, resource extraction, and logging – at the expense of wild places we may never get back, and future generations who deserve to experience them.

For 25 years, the Roadless Rule has helped protect some of our wildest public lands from new road construction and development. Now, the USDA has proposed rescinding it…

At stake are thousands of miles of trails, climbing routes, whitewater and mountain biking routes – not to mention wildlife habitat, clean water, carbon storage, and communities and economies connected to these public lands.

I have the privilege of often spending 100+ days each year on our national forests and other public lands – hiking, climbing, photographing, and simply spending time in wild places that still feel wild. I’d like to see them stay that way.

The good news: this isn’t a done deal, but now is the time to act. Public comment is open through September 20. Your comment doesn’t need to be long or polished, but make it personal so it counts. Share where you go, what you do there, and why keeping these places roadless matters to you.

🔗 Link in bio to submit a public comment and learn more. And follow organizations like @outdooralliance and @wildernesssociety (to name a few) for updates and ways to act/help.

If these places matter to you, I hope you’ll take a few minutes and make your voice heard.

It’s National Park Week! 🤍

For the next nine days, we’re celebrating the national parks that safeguard some of the wildest and most wonder-filled places in Washington: @mountrainiernps, @ncascadesnps, and @olympic_nps — and all the incredible supporters in our community who help keep them thriving.

Some mornings remind you exactly why these places are worth protecting. Thanks to WNPF partner @scott_kranz for sharing this incredible sunrise. ✨

Highlights (and a bonus marmot cameo) from this past weekend at the second annual Star Party Campout, hosted by my friends at @glazerscamera. Honored to be back as a @sonyalpha ambassador and instructor, and to share the night sky (and the landscapes, wildlife, etc) with such an incredible group of humans and photographers. 🏔️✨🦫

Who joined us this year? Who’s ready for next year?! 🤚😀 .

Sharing the full picture today. Compared to 5+ years ago, I shoot way more horizontal than my feed lets on, so here’s a look at frames I’ve previously shared cropped as verticals. Hope 1 or more of these is a bit of a surprise for you. taken in Planet Earth by @scott_kranz
