Woodstock, NY
Fall foliage on the forest floor. It was impossible to overlook the shadows being cast on all of the colorful leaves littered across the ground. Tree trunks revealed reds, yellows and warm colors when shadows are generally cool - creating light where it’s normally dark. #landscape #painting #woodstock #newyork by @scottchenoweth

Cabot Trail, Nova Scotia
I absolutely loved some of the homes in Nova Scotia, they’re so simple and perfect and feel straight out of a storybook. It was really difficult to paint the houses plein air - no one likes a stranger standing in their driveway for 4 hours staring at their house. So I shot a lot of photos to bring back to the studio to try and paint the light and shadows of these structures while pushing the color palette. #landscape #painting #novascotia by @scottchenoweth

What makes a landscape painting? Probably some hills, a bit of water, maybe a river even. Some trees for sure. Bushes, yup. Gotta have some clouds… oh, and put a waterfall in there. Everyone loves a waterfall. by @scottchenoweth

I’ve been sitting on a few of these plein air paintings because they’re studies for a larger piece I’m working on in the studio. Was planning to release them all at the same time to show how I got from point A to point B but things are changing rapidly so I’ll just leave this here. #pleinair #landscape #painting #bigsur by @scottchenoweth
