ONE MORE is live. 🌊 One day the phone rang and it was @travi999 , “There’s room on the boat. You down to go direct this film?” And the little kid who lives in me, who is mostly quiet and still eats Lucky Charms, screamed out loud. A few weeks later I was in Indonesia with Jack Robinson, Kanoa Igarashi and Leo Fioravanti, three of the best surfers on tour, to find out what happens to Young Guns 18 years later. (Answer: they get better. I checked.) We were supposed to take the maiden voyage of a brand new boat with a Cold Plunge AND a Sauna AND a Private Chef. The Works. A week before we left, the brand new boat’s engine decided it did not want to be a brand new boat anymore. So instead we got the Raja Ombak, which means “King of the Waves”, which is an ambitious name for a boat that was more like a wooden 1970s VW bus with an extra story added by someone with big dreams and a relaxed attitude toward the open ocean. We loved her immediately. She did not have a sauna. She had heart. Also a working engine, which turned out to be the main thing. For 8 days we putt putted around the Mentawai Islands looking for perfect waves. Some legends, @stephenisbelly and @jsindustries99 , joined us on the adventure. There was a great deal of laughing and an even greater deal of shit talking. One evening I snuck off in the dinghy with Belly and surfed perfect Macaronis at sunset, the best waves of my life, and it felt less like surfing and more like briefly experiencing nirvana. It was almost too much. So many dreams coming true at once that I didn’t know where to put them all. I’m still finding places. Thank you, everyone, for trusting me with this story. Last couple weeks to check out “Yes, And” by @scottchenoweth at @indoek Artist statement: “Yes, And” features new North American landscape paintings created during a seven-month solo road trip covering 31 states, two countries, and 3,196 miles. Inspired by the improvisational idea of replacing “but” with “yes, and,” the project embraces openess, curiosity, and the belief that any moment can expand into a new adenture. I wanted to let the locations dictate the style and I found comfort in bold, design-focused compositions that emphasize the spirit of exploration on the canvas just as much as behind the wheel. As a result, the paintings suggest the essence of an environment, inviting viewers to complete the landscape through their own perception and experience rather than a literal representation.
