Scott DeRue has one hell of a resume.

University of Michigan professor. Youngest dean of a top business school. Former Equinox CEO. Everest summiter. Seven Summits finisher. Now CEO of The IRONMAN Group.

But at 22, his first performance review said:
“Scott is not smart enough to work here.”

On today’s episode, Scott joins his friend Ken Rideout to talk about proving people wrong, walking away from money to find purpose, climbing Everest, leading Equinox through COVID, the future of IRONMAN—and the Gobi Desert race where their friendship began. by @scottderue

@scottderue was 22 years old when his first performance review came back with one sentence: “Scott is not smart enough to work here.”

Scott DeRue never forgot it.

He went on to become a University of Michigan professor, the youngest dean of a top business school, CEO of Equinox, an Everest summiter, Seven Summits finisher—and now CEO of The IRONMAN Group.

This week on The Other Side of Hard, Scott joins Ken for a conversation about purpose, resilience, leadership, risk and why the real goal isn’t reaching the summit. It’s making it back down. by @scottderue
