THE BEST OF KONA 🏊‍♀️ 🚴‍♀️ 🏃‍♂️

The IRONMAN World Champs is hands down the longest single day of coverage as a sports photographer. 4am to 4am you’re hauling scuba gear, long lenses, flying drones, riding on the back of a motorcycle while downloading and editing content documenting the world’s best long course triathletes. At the end of the day your body and brain are trashed and you say to that you never want to do that again. But the challenge of trying to capture the grit of these amazing athletes set against the raw beauty of the island keeps bringing me back year after year.

When I started covering Kona 26 years ago, we used to shoot for print magazine covers, spreads, and large ads. My first Kona I used only slide transparency film on assignment for #Allsport to shoot for the major race sponsors at the time: Ford, Timex, Gatorade and Powerbar and other commercial clients that paid well for good photography. But now we’ve shifted to these little screens in the palm of our hands, and unfortunately quick delivery and quantity is more important than quality. I really miss the larger format to share my work, as you loose alot when you compress 8000 pixels into a 1080 screen. Maybe someday in the near future we can go back to printing these big…

It’s a trip to think I’ve spent half my life shooting Kona, and you never know if it’s the last time you’ll do something until it is. So I am forever grateful being able to cover this amazing race, the inspirational athletes, and the Big Island that feels like a 2nd home. A lot has changed with this race and sport but a lot on the Big Island has remained the same.

Just wrapped an amazing World Championships in Kona to cap off a very successful 2026 @ironmantri Pro Series season. I’m SO incredibly thankful to @juliapolloreno for trusting me to lead such a large field production team for the broadcast. If I’m being honest, the week was tough and I was stretched, the pictures convey MY highlights, but not necessarily the pressure of pulling it off. I was able to recharge 🏌️‍♂️ the day after BUT Personally and professionally, I feel like I grew a lot this trip. I’ll be forever grateful to the team that pulled it off! Mahalo!!

When I was a little girl, I would have never dreamed of racing the Ironman World Championship. Not because I didn’t want it, but because I couldn’t even imagine that something like this could be possible.

And tomorrow, I’ll be standing on that start line. 🥹

Sometimes, life takes you places you didn’t even know you were allowed to dream of. And that thought makes this moment feel even more special.

Some friendships go well beyond sport, and this one is pretty special.

From living together in San Diego in the early 2000s, to chasing our dreams as two young professional triathletes, to sharing the start line in Kona for the best part of a decade, @crowiealexander has been a huge part of my life and journey in this sport.

I’ve had a front row seat to witness a phenomenal career but beyond the world titles amd incredible performances it’s the person behind the athlete that I’ve always admired most.

Crowie has been so much more than a friend. He’s been a mentor, a big brother and someone I’ve always been able to count on, both in sport and in life. Through all the highs and lows, he’s always been there.

To see you inducted into the Ironman Hall of Fame is incredibly special and so well deserved, mate. You’ve inspired a generation of athletes, myself included, and left a legacy that goes far beyond your results.

Proud of you, brother. Grateful for all the memories, the miles we’ve shared and, most importantly, the friendship that’s lasted all these years.

Congratulations, Crowie. One of the greatest to ever do it. You’re my boy blue!❤️🤙

#DAY5 — IRONMAN World Championship Kona 2026

Ontem foi dia de começar cedo e colocar a bike pra rodar na Queen K.

1h15 de treino no lugar onde a prova começa a ficar mais real. Treino curto, sem inventar moda, só para sentir a bike, o vento, o calor e lembrar que, por aqui, até o “leve” pede respeito kkkk

Depois teve retirada do kit, volta pela Expo na Ali’i Drive e natação na piscina para soltar o corpo.

No fim do dia, ironKids e Parada das Nações. Fizemos a festa e os brazucas foram os mais animados, claro kk

Kona tem dessas coisas.

Você acha que já entendeu o tamanho da prova. Aí vem mais um dia e ela mostra um pouco mais.

Agora falta pouco. Frio na barriga bateu mas é isso.
