The ultimate in Italian chic if you chose to cross the Atlantic in the early 1960’s. The Italian Lines “Leonardo da Vinci. Built by the Ansaldo ship yards as a replacement for the ill fated “Andrea Doria”. I’m adding the final touches to this 28” x 79” painting, she has turned out beautifully I must say😊. #maritimeart #oceanliner #transatlanticcrossing #commissionart by @scottmcbee41

A rough sketch for a new project in the works, The legendary racing schooner “Atlantic”. Built in 1903 by Townsend and Downey ship yard. She was designed by William Gardner and Frederick Maxfield Hoyt. She was built for Mr. Wilson Marshall. “Atlantic” set the record for the fastest transatlantic sail passage in 1905 with the Kaisers Cup Race. The monohull record remained unbroken for almost 100 years.

My latest work in progress, the incomparable S.S. Leonardo Da Vinci of the Italian line. She was launched in 1958 and took the place of the ill fated Andrea Doria. She sailed on the prestigious route between Genoa, Naples, and New York.
I tend to loose track of time when working on one of my ship paintings, lost in the details.😊 It is a wonderful obsession I have. I’ve often wondered if I lived another life or lives as a maritime architect, model maker, or avid passenger. I think the liners of this era were beautifully designed from the keel up as well as their interiors. So chic with passengers to match👌

Executed in gouache on Arches Aquarelle archival paper, 28 x 80.

I find the luxury yachts of the early 1900’s incredibly romantic in their exterior design with opulent interiors to match. The luxury steam yacht “Venetia”. In the early 1900’s the ultimate status symbol for any business tycoon in America was a luxurious ocean going yacht. This 226 ft. Beauty was based in San Diego and owned by the city’s leading business man, owner of the Del Coronado Hotel and San Diego Union news paper, John D. Spreckels.
Designed by Cox & King, built by Hawthorne & Co in 1903.

My paintings are inspired and based on vintage presentation models and working plans. Executed in acrylic gouache on archival paper. 26” x 50”. #classicyacht #yacht #maritimeart #commissionedartwork #yachtlife by @scottmcbee41
