If money didn’t matter, this is where I’d start.

Part 1 of a series on the brands I’d put in my own home gym.

@eleikosport Swedish design this gorgeous is rare. The attention to detail on the Prestera line is why it’s the first rack I’d spec.

@watsongymequipment I haven’t seen nicer leather pads. Bentley style stitching on the machines and benches, built to your spec.

@discoverparagon Dumbbells I’d leave out on display. Stainless steel and oak, made to sit in the room, not on a rack.

@gym80international The metal finishes are insane. Custom shrouds and custom color selectorized weights make each machine look built for you.

@wahoofitnessofficial The feeling of RunFree is unreal. No buttons to change speed. You just run and the KICKR RUN adjusts to you.

I kept one name off this list on purpose. It’s in Part 2.

Follow so you don’t miss it, and save this one for later.

If you’re planning a gym and want it specced around your space and how you actually train, the link is in my bio. by @scottschrat

There’s a version of this project where I do the driveway first. Where the front of the house looks finished years ago, and everything behind it stays unfinished.

I wanted that version, if I’m honest. I wanted people to drive by and see it. But I held back, because the parts nobody could see mattered more than the parts everyone would.

Almost ten years later, it’s done. Not because I rushed the last part. Because I didn’t let myself rush any of it.

I’ve learned that motivation comes and goes. Sometimes I need to commit to something bigger than myself to bring that intensity back.

The person I want to become isn’t built on race day. He’s built through the decisions I make when nobody’s watching.

My future self is built by what I do today.

Becoming parents changed how we spend our time. It didn’t change the fact that we both still have things we want to chase.

So we help each other make room for them.

No keeping score. No waiting for life to calm down. Sometimes I take the kids. Sometimes she does. Sometimes they come with us.

I think one of the best things you can do for the person you love is protect a little bit of the thing that makes them feel like themselves.

Help them keep it.

We’re so thrilled to showcase our first collaboration with @scottschrat on this exciting gym project!

The main design was created by Scott, and we had the pleasure of bringing his vision to life through 3D visualization and photorealistic renderings!

This is going to be a super cool gym, that’s for sure! Take a look at the renderings to see how carefully every detail has been visualized, from the natural lighting flowing beautifully throughout the space to the custom @eleikosport equipment incorporated into the design.

It’s always exciting to collaborate with talented professionals and help bring their design concepts to life through visualization!

Are you a gym designer or contractor looking to help your clients visualize their spaces before execution? We’d love to support your next project with high-quality 3D visualization and rendering services. Shoot us a DM!

16 miles each. The longest either of us has ever run.

But this post really isn’t about running.

It’s for the parents who keep telling themselves, “Maybe when the kids are older.”

We have two young kids. We both work full time. Our training is rarely perfect and there’s definitely not an abundance of free time sitting around waiting for us.

We make it.

Not by putting ourselves ahead of our family, but by working together.

I take the kids so she can train. She does the same for me. Sometimes one of us gets the workout in while the other doesn’t. Sometimes the kids come with us. Sometimes the workout gets shortened, moved, or completely changed.

The goal isn’t balance every day. It’s supporting each other over time.

And something pretty cool happens when you keep doing that.

You start collecting evidence.

A run you didn’t think you could finish. A race you were nervous to sign up for. A distance you’d never covered before. Another hard thing you figured out.

Eventually, you stop wondering if you’re capable of hard things.

You know you are.

That’s how we felt going into Run the Perimeter. 32 miles around Manhattan, split between us. 16 miles each and the longest run either of us had ever done.

We knew we could do it.

Not because we had trained perfectly, but because we’ve spent years building confidence by keeping promises to ourselves and helping each other do the same.

And that’s what I want other parents to know:

You don’t have to wait for a less busy version of your life to start doing things that make you feel alive again.

Start smaller if you need to. Trade an hour with your partner. Take the kids with you. Sign up for something. Put it on the calendar.

Your kids don’t need parents who give up everything for them.

They can also grow up watching you become something alongside them.

Shout out to my dawg of a brother @steve.singson who tackled this solo and impressed me once again! Madman!!! taken in Rector Park by @scottschrat

This one is getting good.

A big update from the restoration barn and probably the most complete look I’ve shared at this project so far.

We’re at the point where all the individual decisions are starting to come together. Equipment locations, training zones, flooring, mirrors, storage, cardio, strength, Pilates, recovery, and all the smaller details that will ultimately make this space work.

There is a lot going into this barn, and almost nothing about it is off the shelf.

Every project like this also reminds me how much I love building this side of my business.

I’m figuring things out, meeting incredible manufacturers and craftspeople, solving problems I haven’t had to solve before, and getting more confident with every project in exactly what I can bring to these spaces.

I’m building Performance Edge Gym Design from the ground up, and I’m pretty damn proud of what it’s becoming.

This barn is going to be special.

Stay tuned. There’s a lot more coming. by @scottschrat

You probably don’t need another healthy habit.

You already know you should move more, eat better, sleep more, drink less.

The harder part is being honest about the thing that keeps undoing all the good stuff you’re already doing.

The weekends that erase the week.
The late nights that wreck the next day.
The food you “only have sometimes” that somehow shows up all the time.

We love adding because adding feels productive.

Taking something away requires a decision.

Before you ask what else you should be doing, ask yourself a better question:

What am I still doing that’s making this harder than it needs to be?

Start there. by @scottschrat

Really fucking proud of this.

There’s something pretty cool about seeing the pieces start to come together.

The spaces. The designs. The ideas that used to live entirely in my head now becoming real places that people are actually going to use.

I’ve gotten really confident in the value I can bring to these projects.

And at the same time, the more I do this, the more I realize how much I still don’t know.

That doesn’t make me less confident. It makes me want to get better.

I know what I bring to the table. I know what I see. I know what I care about.

And I’m really proud of where it’s all headed.

Still a lot to learn. A lot to build.

But this is pretty fucking cool to look at.
