Golf parents: your job isn’t to make them love golf.

It’s to give them a version of the game that’s easy to love.

Let it be cart rides, snacks, skipped holes and more high-fives than swing tips. Let them play three holes and call it a day. Let their relationship with golf develop at its own pace.

Because the goal was never to raise the next great golfer.

It was to create a place where you could spend time together, and hopefully raise someone who still wants to call Dad for a tee time when they’re grown.

If they remember the laughs more than the scores, you did it right. 🤝

What unwritten rule would you add?

You might play less golf than you used to.

But you also learn to appreciate every round a little more.

There will be a time when the weekends are wide open again. When nobody needs you home for breakfast. When the kids have their own plans and you can play as much golf as your body will let you.

And I have a feeling when that day comes, we won’t look back wishing we’d squeezed in another 20 rounds.

But I guarantee we’ll wish we had one more Saturday with the kids exactly as they are right now.

So play the golf. Love the game. Make time for something that makes you happy.

Just don’t rush through this season trying to get to the next tee time.

The fairways will still be there.

The time with your 2, 5, or 7 year old won’t.

Golf Dads… what’s one “unwritten rule” you’d add?

Golf looked different after becoming a dad.

I used to think enjoying golf meant playing as much as possible. Now I know it has a lot more to do with perspective than scorecards or the number of rounds I squeeze into a season.

I’ve found ways to stay close to the game without letting it come at the expense of the people I love most.

Ironically, I think I’ve fallen even more in love with golf because of it…

If you’re a golf-obsessed dad, I hope a few of these tips help.

And if you’ve got one that’s made golf and fatherhood work better together, let’s hear it below👇

Tension destroys swing tempo faster than any bad swing thought ever could.

When you grip too tight, rush your backswing, or force a move, tempo dies. And once tempo’s gone, consistency disappears with it.

If you want smoother, more consistent contact: Focus on the flow of the swing, not the force.

Tempo isn’t about slowing down. It’s about staying calm enough to let your swing happen.

Free your mind… your tempo will follow.

The funny thing about golf is that it gets more enjoyable the moment you stop feeling entitled to good rounds.

When you start feeling grateful just to be out there, the game changes.

You swing easier.
You think clearer.
You let things go faster.

And ironically, that’s often when you start playing your best golf.

Trying to break 90? Give yourself permission to make bogeys.

There’s room for mistakes in a round in the 80s. A double doesn’t mean your chance is gone, and you don’t have to win those shots back on the next hole.

Before your next round, pick ONE thing from this list and write it on your scorecard. Give yourself something specific to come back to when the round gets frustrating.

Which one would you choose?

Calling all swing coaches that follow me! Did I fix my swing? Should I work to make this the new swing during the off season?

One benefit of always filming your swing is it makes it pretty easy to learn what’s wrong… but fixing that is an entirely different journey.

I’ve always hated my takeaway. Too inside and short. My hands never felt like they could get high enough or I felt like it was impossible to rotate properly.

So today I decided to exaggerate an outside takeaway
and get the hands higher. Still not perfect, but got to know from you all… should I commit to this new swing?

Not a golf post. A dad post… Halloween always reminds me of this day 5 years ago when I almost blew my knee out jumping from a tree half blind 🤣

The lengths you’ll go to keep the magic alive in their little minds…

Dreading the golf off-season? Do yourself a favour and join a sim league!

The @paceofplaygolfclub scramble league is off to a hot start 🔥

Competing every week against a bunch of other sticks for prizes, bragging rights, and a little friendly trash talk.

Safe to say it makes the off-season a whole lot more enjoyable.

Only filmed one hole at TGC and I do this…

“Just a few swings” turns into a full hour pretty quick when you’re using @awesomegolfing with the @uneekor EYE MINI

Closest to the pin + shot analysis helped me get a better feel for my distances with the new irons.

The setup is easy, and the EYE MINI’s two high-speed cameras give me accurate feedback right in the backyard. Been finding a lot more time for practice lately 😉

Ending the season the right way at TGC

Layered up in @swanniesgolf for “one last round”… with the blind hope of squeezing in a few more before the season is officially over.

Going to miss days like these. Enjoy them while we’ve got them.
